I have a 42" plasma in a similarly sized space. Most of the time it seems plenty big. There are other times that I wish I had gone for 50" to get just a little more of a theater experience.

According to the Plasma TV Buying Guide, 42" is about optimal and 50" is a bit on the large side.

When picking a mounting height, make sure you aren't craning your neck up or down to view the picture. Pick a height where your line of sight is in the middle of the picture.

Yeah, it is too big. For a lot less money, get a 36 inch and put the rest of the money towards speakers, wall paint, posters, a nice chair or something like that.

I have a 60" Hitachi HDTV in my tv room that is about 8 feet from where I sit. It's awesome! Once you get a large tv like that though, anything smaller will suck.

That depends on how many things you have on your wall already. Also check the angle that you will be viewing it from because wrong angles can hurt your eyes.
