the body is a temple...so if you deface your body and disgrace it and don't respect it..why did God bother giving it to you?

For some Jews and Christians Leviticus 19:28 "Do not make gashes in your skin for the dead. Do not make any marks on your skin. I am God."
This passage is considered by some to be a bar against tattoos. For some Jews, there are additional passages from the Torah that also disallow tattoos. This is part of why the practice of tattooing during the Holocaust was especially heinous - though the banning of tattooing does not apply if the tattoo was forcibly applied rather than willingly sought and among some sects removal of the tattoo at a later date is a sufficient remedy.
The various beliefs regarding tattoos among Jewish communities are relatively complex - if you are interested I suggest looking for more information on your own. And if I've inadvertently misrepresented anyone's beliefs here, I apologize.
Among most Muslims, tattooing is not *strictly* forbidden, but it is discouraged as being a form of self-mutiliation - a dishonoring of God's creation of the human body.

Tattoos have been around longer than the bible. I don't believe in sin. Just one more way to control the people. You are the soul that lives in the body. Why not decorate your home. I have 3 tattoos, my husband has 5. We both live good decent lives. I don't think God minds our body art.

From my understanding - and I could be wrong - is that tattoos were first used by tribes as a way of "marking" them. It would identify that person with it's tribe and their beliefs. These tribes did not believe in God or Jesus Christ but in their own gods. Which made the whole situation wrong. Though not considered a sin they are still looked down upon by most religions.

Seriously, I believe that some on the stuff written in the Bible isn't true. I don't wanna any debates about what I believe is true or not, but I do think that marking your body isn't one of those sins. I have a tattoo, plan on getting a couple more (one is actually a West African Adinkra symbol pertaining to our Higher Being) & I believe and worship Him. It's all up to you.

Yes, in the Book it says that your body is a temple and destroying it with drugs, alcohols, or bodily markings is a sin. I have 3 tattoos and I plan on getting more. Make peace with it and God.

No. It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that having a tattoo is a sin.
But it's a sin if your tattoo depicts something God wouldn't like!

well first of all, r u getting it because u like it, or because it will make u look tough, or wutever, and if getting a tattoo is destroying the temple of God, then so is getting ur ears pierced, right? and a lot of things in the Bible r dang it, wut's the word, like it had to do with that certain time period and location. like it says not to braid hair or wear rings somewhere, but it's cuz in that certain area at that certain time, only prostitues braided their hair and wore rings, so it was saying to completely avoid even the appearance of evil.

im no bible thumper but......
not sure which book or scripture or that stuff, but I've heard that tattoos are a sin according to the bible because
"your body is your temple and your not suppose to alter or cause harm to your temple". i've also heard peircing falls under this catagory.
however, these are not necessarily MY beliefs.
You'll have to make your own choices.

Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
Yes it is but God will forgive that to.I know!
we need to look real hard at the dos and get to doing them.
