Why does anyone follow a particular religion? Because it fills a "need" in them. People who follow LDS follow it because there is something about the religion that suits a need, makes a connection or hits a nerve with them.
It is the same as asking why are you friends with so and so but another friend of yours can't stand that person? Personal taste, a connection and that friend meets a need.

Well this is a fallacy that works in every issue. You cannot learn about mormonism from those who do not uphold it.
The same is true for any religion or philosophy.
I am Catholic and there are certainly tons and tons of materials circulating that describe just why my religion is not true. However, as I read them I notice the errors they make in what my religion believes.
And even on these boards there are many answers from those who have been taught fallacies about the Catholic Church.
So I'm sure the same goes for Mormonism.
I'm not saying we should be pluralistic, but that we should be Catholic... haha, but I mean it :)

People join because they don't know any better. The LDS church starts out with an orthodox view of Christianity but as you go higher up in the leadership the doctrine changes. It is a tier system where "higher" truths are only learned by the elders. The higher truths are largely insane like a mutiplicity of Gods. This is where belief in more than one God leads. There are those that don't believe Jesus but those that diminish Jesus in any way are flirting with the second death. Jesus Christ is the "I AM" as it says in scripture.

Well part of it is you have to realize the Devil is going to throw road blocks in front of anyone trying to find the truth. Another problem is alot of the Anti mormon Documents are just misenturpetation of LDS doctrine. Another problem many of these movies and websites always have an angry almost hateful tone, this is not the attribute of a Christian trying to help someone find the truth. You should love everyone and help them discover the truth, their almost sarcastic tone only proves the fact they are filled with pride in their own intellect and ability to discover the truth.
I would consider myself a fairly accurate source for the question because i have just recently become LDS. I was previously a part of The Church of Christ. I have read quite a few of these websites and have whatched many of these movies as well i have read many pamplets. I was orginally trying to prove my mormon friends wrong because obviously they were incorrect in their beliefs. I read The Book of Mormon to find it blasphemous and not from God, but instead God proved to me the validity in this book. Now I have learned to not rely on my own intelligence but rather rely on God to reveal the truth to me druing my study of the scriptures.
I think these relgious scholars and others who are looking to disprove this church need to take the time to read our book and more importantly to pray to God to reavel to them the truth. James 1:5 Because all truth can be discovered through God. Don't rely on your own intelligence or what someone else says. Learn for yourself this is the only way to truly gain your own testimony of God's Truth.

Public opinion should have nothing to do with ones religious beliefs. If Catholic church began having bad press for whatever reason do you think 1 billion catholic would renounce their faith and seek another? Believing because you believe is the most important relationship with your faith not what the Joneses happen to think.

Based on the fact that you said LDS, I'd say you wrote this question while on LSD.

I agree with i'm_no_cassanova. Educate yourselves before you spout off things you've heard your parents and uneducated friends say. Nice try pretending to think you know what you're talking about!
