There is no such thing as "the terrorists," despite what Bush's propoganda campaign would have you believe. There are many different factions around the world employing the means of terrorism in an attempt to achieve diverse ends.
What you can do is go read their demands. Bin Laden, for example, has several speeches in which he lays out his demands. Other terrorist groups even have web pages. Go find out what is bothering them.

Well that depends on which terrorists you're talking about. If you mean the insurgents in Iraq, I'm fairly sure their demands would be for the presence of the US be removed from their country. Just as we fought the Brittish for our country.

The terrorists want the Americans out of Iraq so that they can get their leader to be dictator of Iraq now thar Saddam is out of the way.
The Sunnis have been in the drivers seat for many years, now that they're out of power, it's hard for them to accept that they're no longer the bosses over the Sheeites and Kurds.

The terrorists' whole idea is to instill hatred towards western society, which they view as extremely corrupt and hedonistic. They're demands are clearly that they want us dead, cleansed, invaded, indoctrinated, converted (by force) etc. etc.
So, what kind of idiot WOULD negociate with them?

They'd want all westerners to convert to Islam, and any who don't to die. If you think I am kidding, study some history of the Prophet Mo hammed, and what he and his armies did when they conquered people.
It's true there are instances in history, even modern history where Christians have don'e unspeakable things.
However, one thing is absolutely certain. Mohammed and Jesus Christ were polar opposites in nearly every way.
Christ gave his life for his followers to save them. Mohammed conquored with his armies, and had those who spoke ill of him put to death. Do they sound the same in any way?
Those in Christianity who kill, are in direct conflict with the teachings of Christ, those in Islam who kill are simply following the example of Mohammed himself.

They would tell us that we all had to convert to Islam. All of the women would have to wear veils over their hair. Extremists would dictate what we believed in and what we would do.
