My grandma let me babysit her amazon parrot. Somehow in the last 3 weeks, it learned the "F" word. Grandma is very religious, and she is gonna flip and blame me for this, and tell my mom too.. Granny is coming back in 7 days, what can I do to get this bird to STOP saying the "F" word?

As far as I know, it's next to impossible to stop a bird from saying something once it learns how. The reason is that, with very few exceptions, the bird has no understanding of the meaning of the word. It's just making a noise that it heard you make and learned to reproduce. There's no point in trying to punish the bird for swearing, as the bird doesn't understand that the word is impolite. I think of the answers you've gotten, the best is to make saying the word boring for the bird, while giving a reaction to other, more acceptable words. You may not stop the bird from saying it occasionally, but you might be able to get the bird to prefer saying other things.

Ignore him when he says it. Say lucky bird, Or say Bucks stops here. Here's the Truck, Find a word that sounds like F and you might be able to pass it off as a miss pronunciation. Fire Truck. Slow duck, bucking horse, dirty muck, If grandma is religious maybe a some kinda quote from the bible? Forth, My luck, licking candy, Depends on if it is the ing kind of F word or just the F word. And if you use that word enough that the bird learned it how long before you say it in front of Grandma yourself?????

Simply do NOT react when he says the dreaded word. Birds do not think the same ways that dogs do, and your scolding will be interpretated as a flock member's cheerful answer to her new word. So when he gets a more than a little rude, just completely ignore him. Don't pet him, don't scold him, don't talk to him.

Then, when he's quiet or vocalizing in some Grandma-approved way, give him some attention, praise, and treats (like fruit or peanut bits). He'll effectively learn that saying "F"-word is boring but that saying other words or whistling produce fun!

Absolutly nothing!

All you can do is IGNORE it when he says it. Chances are he gets a reaction when he says it, so make sure everyone knows to totally ignore him when he says that, and pay him EXTRA ATTENTION for other words he says!
He'll soon learn that there's no point in sayin the F word, as it doesn't get him attention. He may stop saying it, he may not. Parrots dig words that are said with passion and flair, and are exciting, so that's why they tend to pick up cuss words. Just keep that in mind- I'm sure if you had have said f**k in a flat monotone, the parrot wouldn't have cared.
Just ignore it and hope it goes away.

Kill it. Tell her the bird learned it from TV. Blame it on someone else. Cut its tongue out (just kidding) Play a loop of I love you Grandma over and over till it forgets the f word. Or buy it a little leather jacket and say he fell into the wrong crowd.

LMAO, sorry but this is funny. How did it learn it anyway? Start repeating words like Hello. The parrot will most likely forget the F-word and start saying Hello.

Teach it a new work that sounds similar, like "Forgive me" or "Fudge is good"

or just make an MP3 of you saying "I love you grandma" and put it on loop next to its cage and play it 24-7 till she gets back and hopefully it will say that and forget the other.

FIRST STOP SAYING THAT WORD IN FRONT OF THE BIRD, START SAYING A NEW PHRASE TO THE BIRD SUCH AS GOD IS GREAT , SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT, EVERY TIME THE BIRD SAID THE F WORD
PLACE A COVER OR HIS CAGE , IF THE BIRD DOES NOT HEAR THE WORD FOR 3 WEEKS HE MIGHT FORGET IT.

Forgive me for laughing but that story made my day! This one is like something off from a sit-com! I agree that you may want to try substituting another similar sounding but neutral word. Good Luck!
