They trust the Bible, they just realize that it is metaphorical in parts and literal in others.

The key is discerning the Bible with the world God gives them to study, an aid in their quest to understand the Bible.

Also, the Bible is meant to be an authority on Spiritual matters, don't forget that. Not necessarily science and history.

II Timothy 3:16 - "ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and IS PROFITABLE for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..."

Like Paul said we have to rightly divide the Word or Bible.

Not all books in the Bible are inspired. The inspired books are written in parables or what is the same in God's metaphors. The good thing about God's metaphors is that the symbolic interpretation is unchanging. This the the Bible Code used by Joseph and Daniel. It is a law called the "Law of Correspondences."

let me ask you something, there are lots of books which claim to be gods word and speak about jesus and his teachings, how do you know the books chosen for the bible are the "right" ones? god didn't sit down one day and just *poof* there apeared the bible in its current form. christian stories and the words of jesus were passed via word of mouth and then finaly set down in writing by men, then some time later other men decided what books to put in the bible, and what stories should be included or left out, and then theres the varrious interpretations, translations and mistranslations...

I don't think it hurts to atleast to consider the other early christian writings and as far as I'm concerned if you belive jesus christ was the son of god and the basics like the ten commandments then that makes you a christian

Bill,

First of all, when you say the Bible is "the only source book of truth" I'm assuming you agree with "sola scriptura" (scripture alone as the rule of faith and practice). Ironically, sola scriptura is taught nowhere in the Bible!

Secondly, how do you know which books belong in the Bible? Who put together the Bible as you know it?

For 300 years or more after the death of Christ, Christians had no "Bible." There were many books, letters, epistles, etc. but they were not together in one place where any Christian could pick them up and read. Furthermore, there were many books considered for inclusion but which were thrown out by the Church for various reasons. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (and therefore with Divine Authority) the Church finally assembled the Canon of Scripture as we know it today.

Before the Bible was assembled the Apostles were living authorities and Holy Tradition was revered as an additional source of faith and practice. Remember that Christ Himself said "Hold fast to the traditions you have received, whether by word or epistle." Paul echoes these same admonitions in his letters as well. After all, Christ passed authority on to His apostles before His death and promised us the gates of Hell would not prevail over the Church He established.

In other words, our only authority as Christians is not the Bible. If that were the case, then Christ would have left us as orphans after His death, with no King James handy to rely upon when questions and disputes arose. God also gave us Holy Tradition and the authoritative writings of the Church Fathers to guide us. Remember, it was the CHURCH that decided which books were inspired and which were not. If it had divine authority then, why would you not trust it now?

In fact, how can you trust yourself to rightly interpret Scripture? God gave you no such authority, nor did He give it to me. He gave it to the Church from the beginning, and at no point did He take it away.

By the way, this "Church" that assembled the Canon of Scripture which all Christians love and follow and revere was the Catholic Church. Any cursory study of history will bear this fact out.

God bless you in your search for Truth!

I believe the Bible to be the INSPIRED Word of GOD.

However, that is a view that must first be taken on FAITH, as God REQUIRES.

It is faith that is TESTED when we must face certain FACTS about the Bible. For example, that some versions may contain translation DISCREPANCIES. Our FAITH must stand firm, however, as we look to the its ultimate AUTHOR, God.

The reason for this is that it IS, I agree, the BEST source we have to LEARN about God. And it is the best MEDIUM through which God SPEAKS to us.

But one must FIRST have some FAITH, and TRUST in the BIBLE to be the INSPIRED word of GOD.

So no, I don't believe one would be a GROWING Christian, if one does not READ and study the Bible.

(BTW, for those who answered my question, "What do you REALLY know about the Bible," THANK YOU for your responses which have taught me that the link I directed you to may not have been a reliable source of information. I have, hence, deleted the question.)

The Universe was created by God, but the Bible was written (and edited!) by human beings, each of whom is fallible. So when the God-created Universe disagrees with the man-created Bible, which is more likely to be true?

If you believe that the Bible is infallible, that's another way of saying that you have decided to stop thinking for yourself. Another of God's minds lost to man's religion. Suicide bombers and other fanatics do the same thing.

"Inspired" is the key word there. People can trust in God and follow God's teachings but not trust the Bible because it was written by man.

I am a Christian and I trust the Holy Bible, God's word. I agree, if you do not trust it, how can you call yourself a Christian.

I'm just as sorry as I can be, but if a person confess to be a Christian and then says they don't trust the Bible they are not Christians, they just have a form of Christianity.
