Some people believe that when you die, you go to heaven. Sometimes, the same people also believe in ghosts and sprits. Does this mean that they have not made it to heaven?

Some people believe that you don't go to heaven, but you remain in another "dimension" as a ghost or spirit.

If there are such a thing as ghosts, what exactly would be their purpose?

Ghosts that return to seek vengeance on their slayers, to punish the living from crimes against them or their descendants (Shakespeare’s Hamlet father)

Ghosts that seek proper burial. Ghosts are supposed to be souls that remain when their bodies have been improperly buried, or not buried at all as with Odysseus’s friend Elpenor. Harry Price the famous ghost buster of the 30s pretended that the main ghost of Borley Rectory departed when he gave Christian burial to some old bones he found under the Rectory.

Ghosts that come to complete some task left undone or to continue one. The ghost of an american farmer returned for the specific purpose of informing his heirs where he had hidden his will.

Ghosts that appears to announce their own death’s or somebody else’s. (doppelgangers and crisis apparitions).
Haunts are above all recurrent, walking regularly a clockwork, the same night, the same time, at the same distance. They often take little notice of the living, appearing as somnanbulistic an even mindless. Patrolling the same area, performing the same actions, they are frequently considered to resemble a visual record, which has become stuck in one groove. Some people believe that ghosts are the residual energy left behind by an emotionally strong person or event. Such energy is usually caused by violent emotions (death, accident, violent terror.) and linked to crimes, suicides or accidents. This theory holds that more energy/electrical impulses are expended during periods of high stress or excitement, and that the energy lingers for a long time.

If we give credit to this theory then we should make a clear distinction between ghosts and spirits. . Spirits are capable of continuing a full existence on the other side with their full mental and emotional facilities intact, unlike their counterpart the ghost that is a hologram.

Do you see the wind as it blows? No... Do feel it? Yes. So wind does exist? The Holy Spirit is like a wind.
If you were to visit the Walt Disney Haunted House at some point in the ride you see in the mirror the image of someone sitting next to you.
So Yes, Ghost is real and the Greek word is Paraclete or parakletos and is used as an alternative term for "Holy Spirit” In Christianity the Holy Ghost is the third person of the Holy Trinity.

You are made up of Body, Soul (Spirit) and Mind and your soul do not die. Because that is the part of God in you, when God said lets breathe the breath of life in man.

For example when Elijah prayed:
And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the LORD and said, “O LORD my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” Then the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.

Satan is also a Spirit and need bodies to operate and often this is where you get the concept of evil attached to the word Ghost.

That is why you have make up your mind who will you serve, God or the Devil.
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?"

I don't believe in the presence of ghosts walking around amongst us. Only angels and demons on earth. I believe that when you die, you're just "asleep" until God calls us all home. But that sleep is is only sleep to those of us still living. I believe we will all go to heaven (or rather judgement) at the same time and once we're dead it will only seem a moment until that happens. As far as ghosts talking to mediums and stuff, the mediums are not channeling the spirit of your dearly departed loved one, but rather a demon who followed your loved one through their life and therefor knows all the intricate details of that person's life and can relay messages through mediums and such. A ghost (so to say the spirit or soul of someone) would have no purpose or reason to stick around when heaven awaits them. The bible says that we know we will die but the dead know nothing. They have no memory or recollection of anything or anyone on this earth. They have no reason to stay behind.

Ok, first it depends on what religion you believe in.
Christianity does not believe in "Ghost" but they do believe in Angels, but if you think about it, in my opinion they are the same thing. there is not a verse in the bible (that i am aware of) that say's that when you die and go to heaven that you cannot leave and visit earth.

My personal belief's are a little different than the Mainstream. I believe that when we die your spirit has the power to do what it wants to. either to stay on earth or go somewhere else.

I also dont believe that a ghost can hurt you phisically. I truly believe that a "ghost" or spirit can only do what you let them do in this "dimension". Basically if your scared and frightfull of them then they can feed off that and be more powerfull. (hope that makes sense)

Yes, many theories on this one. Here's what I think. The essence of what is me or you or any human (least many of them :) ) is not the body we are carrying around in this lifetime...it is our spirit...that is the US..it is also God/dess. When our bodies die, we don't...our Spirit lives on...this is the "ghost" part. According to many reliable psychic and mystical sources, we go through many stages after the death of the body. However, some people refuse to do this, refusing to believe they are dead. They hold onto physical property such as their homes and they are the "haunting ghosts." Also, some Spirits choose to visit us even though they already know they are dead. I have had a member of my family get such a visitation after the death of her grandmother. I often have dreams of relatives who have gone onto spirit...another story.
Just a few of my thoughts...Brightest Blessings!

Heaven was made when Christ arrose from the dead. He did this at that time to free the souls in limbo. As for ghost or spirits I believe they exist. I am not sure what their purpose is, but from time to time I have odd things happen. I believe this to be my mother. I don't fear this spirt.

Ghosts are lost souls who don't realize that they are dead. They go about repeating the same things they did when they were alive. That's why people see them in the same places.

There are also evil souls who like being evil and hang around just to scare people (they were likely to have been bullies) in life.

Some people die so suddenly or violently they don't realize they are dead. A few are the ones who committed violent acts in life.
Some times children don't understand they are dead.
Just tell them to "Go to the LIGHT", that they are dead and need to move on. Once their spirit is released it moves on to the afterlife.
Ghosts can't really hurt you but they can be scary.
