I hate that, too. I mean, if it's an infant, it's understandable. Once I was at Taco Bell, eating inside, and there were two young women with young boys, probably between the ages of 5 and 8. They were just yelling, and running around the restaurant. It was as if their mothers weren't even there. The mom's were just chatting with each other, enjoying their meal, ignoring their children, while I'm sitting there, unable to do anything but wonder why these women can't keep their children under control. I have an eight-year-old sister, and I know, even when she was younger, my family never had problems bringing her anywhere in public. She was very well behaved, and if something upset her and she wanted to throw a tantrum, we'd talk to her, calm her down, or make a deal with her. Like, when we'd go out to dinner... "If you're a good, you can watch a Disney movie when we get home, before going to bed." It's not that hard. You'd think people would be embarassed of their children's actions and the impression it's giving others about their parenting.

Man oh man. You sure can tell who the parents (who don't discipline their own brats) are in the answers. All the hooey that kids cry and scream is just that, bull hooey. If that were true ALL kids would be crying screaming brats and that just isn't true. Only those who's parents don't discipline them at home have brats in public. There is something to be said about spare the rod and spoil the child. Churches usually have daycare rooms for kids, put them there. Grocery stores or other public places , everyone has to take their chances. As for theater's, if I'm watching an adult movie I would prefer to do it without the screaming brats. Parents of brats should be considerate and hire baby sitters and enjoy a quiet evening out themselves.

We all know that babies cry and children fuss. I think the asker just wants to know why parents seem to know that their children are crying but seldom pick them up to comfort them or take them for a short walk. Young children who are fussing should be removed and talked to.I am a mother and grandmother and have noticed that regardless of where you go in public parents seem afraid or unwilling to correct their children. It is all about respecting other people's rights to an enjoyable meal, a walk in the mall or going to a graduation and straining to hear the ceremony because someone brings a small child to a ceremony that common sense should have told the parent that a small child will get bored and cranky.I'm afraid that your rights end where someone elses begin .As a society some people are failing their children by not teaching them manners, respect and how to behave in public.Just wait until these little darlings hit the teen years and you reap what you sow.

First.....please don't ever have children. These kids may not have been disciplined, then the parents that do try to discipline in a public setting usually have someone say something nasty to them or accuse them of child abuse when they should be grateful the parent is parenting. Then, how do you know the child doesn't have some sort of mental, physical or behavioral problem that causes them to act out? The sooner you get over yourself and realize you are not the only person in this world, the better off you will be. Be grateful you are not the one that has to take that child home and go on about YOUR business.

While I agree it's very annoying and a parent (not just a mother but the father is every bit as responsible for the child) should quickly deal with their child, there are times when kids are just tired, sick or cranky. When they're at that point, they're going to act up, Unfortunately, they haven't yet learned the verbalization skills to let you know they're not happy and therefore let you know the only way they can. I do believe that children who are acting up should be removed from the area for the benefit of others.
I'll bet you were just the perfect little angel at all times too, weren't you?!?

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!! It's because people have ZERO respect for others! Plain and simple. I feel they think that since they have to listen to it all the time other people should see it and feel sorry for them. There has been so many times where I just wanted to scream, "SHUT HIM/HER UP!", however, I never do because that would be considered rude on my part. But wait a minute! Rude? On MY part? Why the hell should I care? Obviously the parents don't. So go ahead. Be the one to turn around and say, "Can you please be quiet? Thank you." I'm sure its happened to you once in ure lifetime, at church, the movies, etc.
I think its fine to be polite and ask the parents to fix the situation.

I am assuming we are not talking about babies. Because they cry and you cannot reason with them, so we have to deal with it (although you can ask the mother to take it outside in a movie theater)
Now with the ones between 2 - 8, mothers ignore their screaming behaviour because people think it will do "psychological trauma" in their brats.
They are the ones that should walk away with their kids.
By the way, in a movie theater, complain with whoever is outside. Usually works

When you have one you will see how difficult it is to try to have a life with also a little one to care for. But I have to admit it's pretty annoying. I got lucky and my two sons were never like that. But I am lucky I guess. I also believe that when a child starts to cry in a movie that the parents need to leave with the child. You do have to make a lot of social compromises when you have babies.

Unfortunately that is what kids do. I would read my son the riot act when he was little, including no screaming, crying etc. Sometimes it worked, but you know if he started screaming because he wanted to leave and I gave in, he would do it everytime and then things would just get worse.
Now, my guess is that you are a former kid and screamer. So live with it.
