Not all religions are, just a lot of them. And yes, it's a great way to control people, I'm sure that's partly why they were created.

Why is irreligion based on fear? I mean those who are not religious can certainly be like you; phobic of those who think they have an answer. You are afraid of religion because the values and 'faith' you subscribed to has taught you to fear it.
Your faith, unfortunately, is modern society. It is unfortunate because this faith never stays the same and always changes its mind (even more than you think religions do). That is why you call religion archaic or old-fashioned. Because religion adheres to principles which remain true for people no matter the epoch of their existence. Yours is a religion of fads that come and go, wax and wane, fade into nothing then rear their ugly head again. You adhere to the fancy of the culture and believe it to be true. Then when the culture trends towards the opposite, you relinquish your past beliefs and continue to follow the fad.
That is fear. You cannot fathom not going along with the philosophies of our day. It is frightening to you to even think that perhaps these philosophies, these trends and fads could possibly be wrong!
NO! don't think of that! Keep your wits about you and follow whatever culture says is good.... and of course.... kid yourself into thinking that you are deciding what you believe.
Read some books dude. If all you read is anti-relgious then that is all you will know. That is where you question comes from. Ignorance of the complete perspective.

It never used to be. I mean when I was a little girl. It was when the creationists took over cus its a good way of getting converts. Using fear in this way is a classic brainwashing technique used by fundermentalists and cults alike. Put people in a room, with enough stress and fear and people will agree with anything especially if there life is in danger (fear of not getting eternal life ). So yes its a very good way to control people.

The Way Is Forever, but the Realizaion Is Absolute
The Way is Sacrifice of self.
The Realization is that no objects exits.
The Way is self-transcending Love-Communion with the Living and Divine Reality.
The Realization is the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness, in which there are not objects, no differentiated conditions.
As long as the conventions of experience persist, there must be the Way and the Realization, both.
Those who seem to practice the Way, full of self-denial, meditation, and good acts, but who do not Realize the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness in every moment, have only emptied themselves.
Those who constantly speak of the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness, indulging their minds in concepts of emptiness, transparency, and pure space, but who do not practice the Way of self-transcending Love-Communion in every moment, are only full of themselves.
In every moment, there must be the Way and the Realization, simultaneous, actual, and true, as long as the conventions of experience persist.
Then there is only Radiant Fullness, or Love, without dilemma, without self, and without inherent circumstance, even in every moment of the Mystery of all relations.
I am the Consciousness behind attention, the Self from which mind arises.
I am the Radiant Life that pervades the world, the energy of which every object is the modification.
Love Me with open eyes. Turn to Me beyond all experience and every thought. Let Me live you. Dissolve in My Current of Bliss.

We worship what we fear. It's universal.
I fear the Ressurection. It's a comfort to be forgiven, but I don't believe I'll ever be completely confident that I'm going to heaven. You may wonder why someone should fear the Ressurection. It's because I may very well have to pay for all of my mistakes (sins).
Anything you crave, can be used to control you.

Depends on what religion, but a lot of religions out there are built on fear. Fear of death, fear of rejection, fear of what others might think, the list can go on, but what we should remember is that God will give us peace and for that peace, we have to give up our fears and follow him whole heartily.

Pretty much. Or perhaps the builders of the religions thought it necessary to balance the negative with the positive. Either way, it's a sham..I mean, shame..hehe

You're right. Religion has been abused by the church [es] for too many centuries by invoking FEAR on its members into utter submission to all the church's doings and requirements.
Members have been indoctrinated according to whatever doctrines the church fed them, including FALSE TEACHINGS, which they had to follow WITHOUT QUESTION or suffer the consequences: They either get EXCOMMUNICATED by the church, and/or suffer eternal damnation in Hell...
So in the mind of the powers that be, why fix it if it ain't broken??
Peace be with you!

I would have to say at my age...religion was created to solve fear.....the ultimate fear....If you fight for something you believe in till the day you die....you won't fear that day.. or anything that stands in your way

Then that "religion" is false. You shouldn't have to base any type of "faith" on fear.
