If you plan to check your email through an application, not through the actual site, I recommend Microsoft Outlook as it provides the most basic tools in a easy to use environment and also packs a lot of advanced tools for those dedicated users. If you have any version of Microsoft Office, this program will be installed within the package.
If you are planning to select a email service, I recommend using Gmail or Yahoo Mail. Both offer great storage capacity and a good arsenal of programs. However, if you are just starting at webmail, I suggest using Yahoo Mail as Gmail comes with a lot of extra features that are not really needed for general email use.

I recommend google g-mail. I like being able to access from anywhere, also it has a large mailbox so you can receive and store large graphics if you wish.
