The Bible teaches that there will be ONLY a second coming of Christ! In the first coming, Jesus was incarnated and crucified. He will come a second time at the end of the world. He only comes Twice! There is no Rapture for "true Believers" or "elect" and leaving evryone "left behind".
The Bible only teaches the second coming:

Stone angel: what happens in 1 Thes 4:17 is part of the second coming. Some Christians mistake this as the rapture that happens before the second coming.

Ah the ignorance; the Bible says we will be changed in a twinkling of an eye - not gone in such. If most Christians would actually study the Bible instead of Tim LaHey and Hal Lindsey, they would probably be ready for what is coming and not looking in the wrong direction like the Jews were for the first coming.
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
I don’t think a trumpet sounding is very secret. Anyway, this verese is refering to the second comming, not a secret rapture.

In the book of medieval folklore and mythology that I am reading, it says that there were letters apparently found buried in St. Paul's house (in Tarsus, I believe) that tell of a dream he had of the rapture in which one of the angels led him through what was going to happen. I think it was some time in the fourth or fifth century. You should look it up if you're interested. Anyway, the idea was popularized by the Church as a further means of conversion.

Actually, the first verse you mentioned is one of the basis of why people belive in the rapture. 1 Thessalonians verse 17 says "Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord!" ( Amplified Bible)

The rapture is taught in: 1 Thessalonians 4, 1 Corinthians 15:
There is no debate that 1 Thessalonians 4, and 1 Corinthians 15 teach on the rapture. Both chapters also teach the resurrection and of the trumpet blast. Neither chapter mentions anything about having to endure the tribulation before the rapture comes. There is no debate that Revelation 19 and Zechariah 14 teach on the physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power after the tribulation. Neither of those chapters speak of the rapture, nor of a resurrection, nor of a trumpet blast.
1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Thess 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1 Thess 4:18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
[caught up=HARPAZO=Rapture]
1 Thess 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
1 Thess 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
1 Thess 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Thess 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I will not try to "reinvent the wheel." If you want a comprehensive, logical, thoughtful answer to your question, read Dr. Ed Hindson's paper, "The Rapture and Glorious Appearing of Jesus Christ" at www.pre-trib.org. Here's the page: http://www.pre-trib.org/pdf/Hindson-TheRaptureAndGloriou.pdf
Generally, this web site answers each and every question or concern one may have about the Rapture.

Obviously, you believe you will go through the Tribulation (post-Trib). How awful. You have no clue what the Trib is all about, do you?
But, Praise The Lord, I know I won't have to go through it. (Pre-Trib).
The word Rapture is the modern word for when Jesus sweeps us up (Bride of Christ) to be with him, as recorded in I Thes. 4:15-17.

I just want to say I agree with you. No where in the bible will you find the word "rapture." I do believe that in 1 Thessaloninans it is talking about the remaining 144,000 chosen ones that is being caught up in the clouds.

Most Christians do not believe in the rapture... for example Lutherans, Methodists, Catholics, Episcopalians, Presbyterians... etc don't.
Maybe that doctrine is made more public because it makes for good fiction books and movies...

You're a goof. The "second coming" is the rapture. When Jesus resureccted, that was not a "coming" that was a leaving (back to heaven). It just took him 4 days to do it.

Theology is the key. There are about three methods of interpretation. Yous is not pre-trib. Your theology came from the Catholic or Anglican church. Most theologians will disagree with you. I hope you are wrong, but time will tell. I hope you are wrong even for your sake.
