I think that maybe they take their clothes off when they are going potty because they are used to having so many of their clothes taken off when their diapers were changed. So it is just normal to them to take their clothes off when they need to use the bathroom. Plus, they just plain like being naked and have not yet aquired the shyness or conservativeness about their body. Most kids don't cae a bit if they're naked in front of a room full of people until they get to be about 3-4 years old, then they start getting shy.

Every kid does it at some point. Usually when they are first being potty trained. I'm sure I did it. I was even told I used it in the living room(the number 2) lol. Kids will be kids. Just tell them no.

My kids used to do that. They could not make the distinction between lower body clothing and all the clothing. Now, they know that in order to pee, they only need to take their pants off. They stilla sk me to take their shirts off, whereby I will explain (again!) the fact that it is not necessary.

Let it go for some time - or at least until the child is fully trained and more secure in the whole process, and then explain that it is not needed at all....

The little ones' haven't yet grasp the concept of pulling clothes down a little because they're still feeling pretty proud that they're even on the pot! Another reason is becuase at their young and fragile age, their legs feel constricted in thir pants and underpants when sitting on the pot. They have the need to wrap theirselves around the potty (or the big toilet), and need to somehow feel in control of theirself. In other words-hold their self up and keep the balance.

not all kids do that. Try showing them that they only need to take off some to go potty. It might work

Its because they have a poorly developed sense of the nuance of their actions. They think in broad strokes.

As an adult man, I recognize that to take a leak I only need to unzip my pants to do so. I only need so much of my pants undone to effectively accomplish what I am intending to do.

A child makes a broad general kind of association though. The pants are in the way so I have to take the pants off.

Their rational problem solving ability is underdeveloped. Its as if you are trying to get to the other side of a wall, and instead of having a doord there, you just try to obliterate the whole wall.

Pants are in the way? Just throw the pants totally out of the way.

They're still learning. They get carried away sometimes, and overdo things. But it's worth it just to see the happy expressions on their faces when they report that they succeeded in using the potty just like a grownup!

Well kids know they must take their clothes off to take a bath so maybe they are just confused.

kids will use any excuse to get those clothes off. they Don't realize the being naked is a taboo. Just put their shirt back on and remind them that we don't get naked except when we are in the tub.
