I think I have to be able to access the "menu" but can't get there. They are cable-ready and had been hooked up to cable (now they are not). These TVs are fairly new and were working just fine. Even if I get a "universal remote" how can I get it to "talk" with the TVs? Any suggestions?

what your experiencing is called raster with no signal. when it was set to cable it would recieve signal on all 70 some channels, but without cable signal, you've probably got it on a channel where there is no signal. The programming needs to be set to antenna. and auto program run. what we need to know is, what buttons are on the front of the tv. if you only have channel up/dn, and volume up/dn, and power, your gonna need to get a universal remote to access the setup. no amount of "messing" with buttons will get you there, the most you might get is cramped fingers or a broken button. once you have a universal remote. the instructions with the remote will tell you how to program it for your television. however do note: not all buttons will function with all tvs. meaning...if you buy a remote that has a menu or setup button, it may or may not operate your tv's menu functions. also best advice, get 2 remotes, program each one to a seperate tv. many remotes nowadays can be programmed to more than one device, however, ytou may get confused and forget which device your selecting and you may forget how to switch from one tv to the other in the remotes programming.

There should be a way to manually select the menu from the tv set. Do you still have the manual on how-to-work the tv?

Play with the buttons on your TV one of them should allow you to access the "menu". It seems that your TV is set to "video/ AUX Input" and not to TV.
