Dr. Werner Gitt, a director and professor at the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology, wrote: “A coding system always entails a nonmaterial intellectual process. A physical matter cannot produce an information code. All experiences show that every piece of creative information represents some mental effort and can be traced to a personal idea-giver who exercised his own free will, and who is endowed with an intelligent mind.... There is no known law of nature, no known process and no known sequence of events which can cause information to originate by itself in matter...”

I don't know but, I suggest you put this in the "Physics" category if you want the best possible answer.

As you probably already know, Gitt's whole approach has been blasted out of the water various times. His argumentation is not much more than pedantic redefinitions which are then used to "prove" specious proposals. More laughably, he attempts to use Shannon's work while simultaneously contradicting it. Even Behe's trivia is more creative.

Luckily very few (of the handful) of pro-Genesis scientists, are willing to attempt these manipulations.

Tree rings.

# of rings = # of years the tree has lived.

Information, no?

"Information" is recognized by the human mind and encoded as a signal designating a pattern corresponding to stimuli. In this sense, "information" is simply one of several signals within ones brain.
