This City needs help. I found a Cat & 5 kittens in the bushes & the animal control people suggested I leave them for "dog food". I can not take them to my place or I will be in the bushes too. Are there any agencies in KERN County that help cats? The Cat People are full.

ALL of the agencies are full. Why? Because of the "No Kill" Policy! Hmmm, I see, said the blind man! People open shelters to help, then no one adopts because they can get free cats from Hart Park that are fed 2 times daily. Then when people grow tired of the responsibility of the animal, they just take them BACK to the Park for the Cat People to continue caring for them. This is NOT how a City that is going to become the shipping hub for the Northern End of California should be operating. Don't make me get Political over this! Looking forward to new ideas!

I have sent your question on to this organization. I hope to get a reply by E-Mail, but if you'd like to you can E-Mail them yourself. It is always best to start with the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
Your question disturbed me very much and I will find out how those we put our hope in to help these poor animals can be so cruel and unresponsive.
Perhaps they can investigate your Bakersfield shelter's ethics. I believe the sponsors of the shelter you spoke with would be very interested in their comment about leaving the cat and kittens for dog food.
Good luck.

I live in Bakersfield as well. If the Cat People are full, and you cannot shelter these animals, I guess the next best thing might be Hart Park, at least there's food supplied for them there. I love cats and feel your pain. Lifelong resident, UCSteve.

Have you contacted any of the following rescue groups in your area?
The Peaceful Kingdom Alliance 4 Animals
Tehachapi Humane Society
SAFE-Siamese and Friends, etc
Bakersfield SPCA

They don't have to be in your city or county to help necessarily. Here is a link to all the shelters and rescue groups in California through petfinder.com

I rescue stray cats and dogs in Texas and I know that it can be extremely difficult to find the help you need.

Good Luck!

ill cats shouldn't in any respect be submit for adoption. Our rescue makes particular each and all of the cats have been taken care of and and are recovered formerly putting them. i could put in a decision to the SPCA or animal administration. If there is not any longer something incorrect happening, the female shouldn't suggestions. a woman close to me is looking herself a rescue yet is freely giving finished litters of kittens to single adopters on Freecycle. sometimes those people propose nicely yet issues can rapidly get out hand. i do no longer see rescues as opposition. each and every person is in it for the comparable motives. The rescues i comprehend are all acquaintances and help one yet another while they could. subject over those cats should not be considered as an attempt to do away with opposition. i desire it gets taken care of out.

Start a shelter. Granted.... it would take some funding, but it's out there! You might also call the ASPCA and find out how one can get started.
