I know of a car for sale that was in an accident, has been rebuilt to its original condition and has a salvage title. I live in Tennessee- is this legal to register and drive or do I have to apply for another kind of title and how much does that usually cost?

In South Dakota and surrounding states, a salvage title just means that the vehicle has been "totaled" or more than a certain dollar amount of damage to it. 3 1/2 years ago I bought a totaled 1990 Buick Lesabre with 98000 mi on it for $100. After replacing the drivers window and pounding out a dent in the rear quarter it is ugly but very drivable and very reliable. I figure after all of the repairs I have put in it I am only into the car for about $700 and that includes the purchase price.

many states will not register or re-register a car as road worthy after being declared salvage, no mater what has been done to the car, check with the TN DMV for their rules in registering a salvage title auto
