Actually on fire? Ouch! Run them under cool but not freezing water. If they blister, use a burn soothing creme. If there's any black skin, see a doctor about it.

Can I just add - the old wives remedies of butter, toothpaste, honey etc etc are really discouraged by all burns units, as they do not make ANY difference to pain or healing; and can potentially infect a burn.

Run the burn under running cold water for a good length of time (eg 10 minutes) - if any significant blistering or swelling has occurred, ESPECIALLY if it is circumferential (all the way around your finger/s), must be checked out by medical personnel. If not, sterile paraffin gauze with a bandage over it, and oral painkillers (like ibuprofen) are a good option.
