I need some advice on weight loss. This is not a normal situation. I have a condition called ataxia which does not allow me to do normal exercise. I dont move around much at all due to the fact that I have hardly no balance or coordination. My question is should I lower my calories drastically to compensate for the lack of exercise or is there some sort of special supplement I can talk. I know losing weight will help me move better and feel healthy. Please no fad diets.

Low carb diets usually do not work in the long run, if you want to loose weight you have to adapt your lifestyle to certain eating habits. What worked for me(it's not guarantted it'll work for you) was a lof fat high protein diet, fish, no pork, no lamb. Let go of the desserts like pies, cakes ant the likes and oyu will be losing weight slowly but for sure and it'll last longer then the average die. Usually the diets that last a fixed amount of time do you only harm to your body, it won't harm you when you lose weight fast, it will harm you when you're going to put it back. If you eat right you can lose weight without any additional physical exercise.

there are still exercises you can do,
they are just going to be smaller motions than most people do.
You may want to reduce calories but don't starve!
You can do a lot of exercices sitting down- these are very polular with retirees who aren't so strong anymore. I recommend looking for a good book or TV show for elderly exercisers.

Sit in your chair with your feet flat on the floor and push your heel up so just the toes are on the floor. Same thing except lift the whole foot up- from the hip.
In your chair you can do arm curls, too. Set your elbow on the desk, grip something of a suitable weight (water bottle?) and lift up to your chest. You can use the water botle for lots of arm exercises- just try to hold your arm straight out to the side for a full minute, it's hard!
Find some simple exercises online and many of them you should be able to do, maybe with smaller motions than recommended there, or very slowly, but you can do many of them.

try getting an exercise video, sitting in a chair, and moving your arms and legs as much as you can to mimic the movements. try physical therapy or maybe participate in that one show "Sit and Be Fit"...try swimming or bicycling. You shouldn't drastically cut calories as this will slow the metabolism making it harder to lose weight. if you can walk, walk 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. you can cut the 30 minutes into 3, 10 minute walks if you need to do so. eat plenty of high fiber, nutrient dense foods to include a variety of brightly colored fruits and vegies, soy products, lean meats, high fiber carbs such as wheat pasta, oatmeal, wheat tortillas, etc. good luck

Are you doing leg raises, arm exercises, abs, while sitting? Just moving a little will be a big benefit. Find ways to compensate for your lack of being able to move around freely.
