NO, do not cut down on *food intake", it's the number of calories that you need to cut down on. You can eat the same amount of food if not more, but with lower a mount of calories. Eat much more of fiber, lean protein, and complex carbs to keep you full, nutritionally sufficient, energy for daily activiites, and aid in weight mainenance once you get there. Drink a lot of water (about half your body weight in ounces, i.e. 132 /2 = 66 ....66 ounces). You'll lose one pound a week of you eliminate 500 calories from your daily diet; 2 pounds if 1000 calories. This is the case if you make no other changes. However, you are more likely to lose muscle mass or water weight than fat if you just cut out on calories but skimp on exercise, particularly weight-training. Once you add on exercise, you can cut out less calories....

Have you thought about limiting your carb intake? I have lost 30 pounds over the last few months eating like my brother does. He is a type 2 diabetic and is controling his condition through his eating. We found out that the body converts carbs into sugar faster than anything else that you eat other than sugar itself. Also if you read the labels at the supermaket, you will be surprised how many things have carbs and sugar in them. The rule of thumb is to avoid or limit things that are white. Like white bread, rice, flour, sugar, etc. We also eat more smaller meals through the day instead of 3 large meals. This seems to help with the digestion of what we are eating. This may or may not help you to lose the pounds you want, but I know that I feel better and am eating healthier. Good luck.

run 1 mile a day. Most high school tracks, 4 laps equals 1 mile. After running, drink a lot of water. Judging by your BMI, you are in normal weight.

Running everyday will use energy, and cut your appetite. You'll lose weight over 6 months. How much I don't know. But you'll lose weight and build some leg muscles. You might actually grow to like it.

Burn more calories everyday. It sounds simple but it works. Most people do not know how to calculate this. The basic formula is Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity.

Exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. Go on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Eat fish, eggs, chicken, occasional lean beef or pork, low fat cottage cheese. Stay away from regular cheese, no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, beans (except green beans). No fruit and no fruit juice (it's sugar water, my dr says). Cut down on carrots and tomatoes (included ketchup). Use mustard instead of mayonnaise in recipes. Eat lots of salads, green vegetables. Salads only have one tablespoon of dressing for the whole salad. No ice cream, or other desserts. 8 glasses of water a day. No caffeine

If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 calories women & 1500 men
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices
All food choices need to be low fat
Don't make food a big deal and don't socialise using food

Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am - 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am - pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm - multigrain sandwich w 50g tuna/lean meat & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm - low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm - 120g-150g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack - 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)

Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 women & 1800 men and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

Multiply your bodyweight by 15 to get the calories you need to sustain the weight tht you are at, then subtract 500 calories per day to lose weight. Also. you should begin a walking program and join a gym where you can lift weights to tone up.
