Sometimes when I cut and paste a file in Windows the file doesn't get copied correctly to the destination but it gets removed from the soure. This results in me losing the file that I was trying to move. What should I do about this?

The files aren't actually disappearing. They are officially at the destination folder and it shows their file size correctly but when I try opening them it gives an error. I tried opening them with different software so it's not the software. I even tried deleting one as an experiment and it says access denied. I have full administrator rights so don't be retarded and say I'm not logged in right.

Is there a program or utility that will look for disk errors like this and fix them? I remember long ago in the days of Windows 3.1 there were utilities that would look for disk errors and try to correct them.

If youre trying to copy a file from a folder that shows hidden files and folders and you try to paste it into a folder that doesnt have the same option, then it will disappear.

Just go to Tools, then Folder options, and then folder view. Make sure that folder you just pasted it in also shows hidden files and folders.

To avoid future problems, just in case....use the COPY method and paste it into the destination folder. Then you can just delete the one from the source folder. I never had problems with windows cut and paste so if it becomes a big problem for you, then try and use a safer method so that you dont lose your files again.

And always make backup =)

use copy and paste, which will not remove the file from it's original source directory.

You can also open the file (in the appropriate application) and select Save As to save it to the desired directory.
