Yes, you can lose weight by walking instead of running, but you either have to step up the pace and/or the distance. Once your body gets used to a certain activity it becomes accustomed to this and therefore, you won't lose any more weight unless you challenge your body by going farther or faster. Try adding resistance training to strengthen and tone your muscles.

I'm sorry to say this, but just walking 1 mile every day isn't gonna help you much. It's much better than no exercise at all, and if you have a very healthy diet you would lose weight, but very slowly. Also it depends on how much weight you want to lose. If you're shooting for, say, 5 pounds, walking won't really help you. If you're overweight walking would definitely be a good way to start your weight loss, but you will have to start some more intensive exercise eventually.

Absolutely!!! Walking at least 20 minutes a day will exercize the joints and increase the heart rate, making the body use excess fat.!!!

I've lost over 35 pounds so far!!! Keep up the good work!

Yes, I walk every day for 40 minutes. Exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. Go on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Eat fish, eggs, chicken, occasional lean beef or pork, low fat cottage cheese. Stay away from regular cheese, no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, beans (except green beans). No fruit and no fruit juice (it's sugar water, my dr says). Cut down on carrots and tomatoes (included ketchup). Use mustard instead of mayonnaise in recipes. Eat lots of salads, green vegetables. Salads only have one tablespoon of dressing for the whole salad. No ice cream, or other desserts. 8 glasses of water a day. No caffeine

Any kind of exercise helps, but for it to be effective, you need to get your heart rate up to about 65%-75% of your maximum and keep it there for at least 20 minutes.

I might suggest that you try swimming instead due to the asthma.

Yes, any kind of repetitive motion will help in burning calories and excess fat that are stored in the body. They are used up in giving you the energy to walk. So it will help you greatly, plus it is not as strenuous as running, cycling and other forms of exercise.

it will. But you have to walk much longer than you would if you were running. And try to walk rather fast, for like 1 hour at least every day. And don't eat double afterwards!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Yes, it will. Keep the intensity high (walk fast) and mix in some hills if they are available to you. If you live in Kansas, you're out of luck.
