It has nothing to do with liberals. This was established a long time ago and it is an antiquated law. But no one has the guts to change it.

Both were 18 ry old thresholds when I was younger. Voting was just lowered to 18 from 21 as I turned 18. The military used 13 yr olds in battle during the Civil War. ET AL;
Different agneda driven special interest groups for each topic.
It all depends on where you are and when you were born. Societal mores change and some times the laws do not keep up with them.

Strange isn't it.... when I joined all you needed was an ID card to drink.... then came the Federal Facilities Compliance Act of 1992...it was an update to the original Federal Facilities Compliance Act of 1988.... the rest is history. That was something that was added to the act... the original act dealt with existing laws on traffic, environmental complicance and the Department of Defesne School system.... then a few liberals in the Senate got ahold of it and decided to "teach" the military that we were out of control with alcohol use and abuse.
I feel the same way... and when I have to punish a soldier for underaged drinking... it doesn't sit too well with me. But it's a law we are stuck with now.

Because at 18, you aren't very mature. The military will help you to grow up and become mature. BTW, you can kill people at 16 in this country, look at the fatalities in car accidents for people under 21. Maybe we should ban driving until 21.

It's simple. Back in the early 70's with all the war protesting going on, democrats knew the majority of hippy kids would vote for them. They fought untill the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18.
If there was money in it for them, they would lower the drinking age too.

Because 18-year-olds are not mature enough to handle alcohol.

Look at how the number of drunk-driving deaths declined when the drinking age was raised to 21.

Actually, in some states/counties, you're NEVER able to buy beer, because it's a 'dry' area, meaning that they practice prohibition. put the alcohol in your gas tank, and you don't have to worry about drunks. Whether you ever join the military is entirely up to you....because america still has a volunteer army. If you don't wanna, you don't gotta...

What? When I was in the service all military bases allowed 18 year old service people to have beers on base.
Has that changed? I don't think so. If not, what are you whining about? Something tells me you are not in the military.

first, the correct spelling is "allowed". politicians come from the society that elects them. people in general only have your interests in mind once their interests are satisfied.

not that 21 is a magic number, but joining the military, the legally recognized age of adulthood, and getting a driver's license should be raised to age 21.

Because Beer doesn't buy oil, mercury, uranium and gold.
