I mean, someone (besides me!) asks a Q about celebs, and she gets answers like "FREAK! What a stupid question? People are dying of hunger while you ask such idiotic questions!"
What the HECK does people dying of hunger have to do with it? Is this person solving the world's hunger problem here on Yahoo Answers? If she can, sign me up! But really!

People think their opinions are worth something. Or in other cases people think they are funny. Very few people in this world are funny and no ones opinion means anything. But that's just my opinion.
People are egomaniacs who want to be involved.
For instants: I am a reptile enthusiast and was reading a question about the legalization of a certain type of snake in a specific state. To which some girl posted something to the effect of: Snakes are disgusting and your wrong for owning them.
That's not an answer. Post that on Yahoo!opinions. This is a place to become informed and help others find answers.
Had the question been, "What do you think of..." then an opinion matters. If not, save it.

Who knows. As you said, some people do it for the points. Some people probably believe the question asked to be insignificant and instead of ignoring it, they choose to say their "peace". Probably all boils down to the two points and a little bit of the urge to be mean.
