Well, lets look at the sentence:
"Is this a stupid question?"

First: "This," referring to the question. We now know that this question is asking about itself. There is nothing stupid about that. I ask questions about myself all the time and they are not stupid but rather vane. So, this question could be vane.

Second: "Stupid." From dictionary.com Stupid means"
1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.
Since a question cannot learn, cannot make decisions, cannot contain intelligence and since I am finding time to bring points out about it, it is not stupid for this reason.

Third: "Question." The fact that this is a question lacks stupidity. Questions show curiosity and while curious things or people might be foolish they are rarely stupid.

So, this is not a stupid question, but rather a curiously vane one.

Superficially, yes. But relative to many of the questions I see here, it's brilliant. Besides, your spelling and grammar are flawless.
