Would he have been the greatest ever had he not ended up a 'COMPLETE FAILURE" with his life....only want opinions on his talent (no arguement he is/was worthless).....but "pound for pound" in that time he was "superior" to Hearns-Leonard-Hagler or Duran....my opinion.......do you disagree?

He is back in jail.....got into the same trouble as before and sent back.....he said on HBO prior to coming out after 15 years that he would "kill" himself if he went back to the same thing.....the "Raging Bull" movie should have been about him and not Lamotta....

Yes I remember him, and your right at the time I think he could have beaten all of the above mentioned fighters. He reminded me of a young Joe Louis, very conservative in his footwork, but he always kept close to his man cutting off the ring. Good boxing skills and very good ring savvy saw for someone so young. His brother Mike was a very good featherweight, so I guess talent ran in the family.

What I saw of him was enough to know that he definitely was championship material and a threat to those top four fighters. I also remembered him getting knocked down in that fight, so he may have been a little over anxious or eager. Which is not a bad thing for a fighter. Its a shame he never saw his true potential because he also sparred with Jose Ceaves the then welterweight champion and he had him in sorts of trouble. He came back years later ater being released from jail but then he re-offended and that was that.

I remember him being featured in an article in ring magazine called tomorrows champions. They had Alex Ramos a Puerto Rican middleweight, Johnny Bumphus a junior welterweight, Bobby Cyz middleweight and Tony Ayala. I think Tony was the talented one out of all four of them and only Bobby and Johnny went on to win titles.

Yes I remember when he first got back out. I was surprised he still looked good and beat up on some guys half his age. He was on ESPN2 and they talked about his earlier fights and how dominant he was. After so many matches I think either his age or just lack of discipline must have caught up with him as he started to fade and lost a couple fights. I think thats when he must of got into trouble again as you said and went BACK because I haven't heard anything for a couple years. (Was impressed with first fights when he got out and I actually rooted for him a bit looking forward to a possible title shot -would have made for a good story.)

When he was on he was indeed one of the best. But he let the wrong part of his body do the thinking for himself. Not sure if he is still in jail, but it would not surprise me if he is.
