Granted the music facet has its exceptions, there are some very talented artests that the world doesn't notice until they go mainstream, but the movies? i mean come on, would God not call the most talented in the world to do this?

It has nothing to do with cursing or nudity either, i don't listen to anything like that or watch anything like that, I am purely speaking about the fact that we seperate ourselves enough to have our own radio, magazines, TV channels, movies and music, and its quality just seems to be not equal with the worlds. It really can be copycat at best.

Looky there "Rev" about your comment of "LOLOLOL you're no more an ordained minister than you can fly. Nice try troll. "
First of all my name is Matt Hafer i have been ordained for 2 years now, i was ordained at the Sciotoville Christian Church, i have a degree from Kentucky Christian University in Preaching, Theology and Biblical Studies. I graduated at the top of my class in the Preaching Department, i am also in the process of getting my Masters at Cincinnati Bible Seminary and after that i am planning to attend Emmauel School of Religion to pursue my Doctorate in New Testament Theology. I am currently full-time at South Side Church of Christ in Washington Court House Ohio, and i got an internship from Little Prater Church of Christ in Grundy Virginia, and served for almost a year as the Interm Senior Pastor at the Otway Church of Christ. Now sir i would never judge you as being ordained, so do not judge me. I never intended to let you take a peek at my resume'

Christian "art" (especially music and cinema) at least in the 70's-90's was focused on preaching and evangelism, rather than on creating lifelike people and scenarios that impact us on a deeper level.
In many ways, the Christian art scene would "copy" the secular scene, rather than breaking new ground on its own. Christians essentially tried to substitute "Christian" art for secular art -- "The world has rap; hey look, we have rap now too, you can listen to US! The world has scary books; hey, look, now we have Left Behind!" And so on.
When you're just a copycat, you are always less creative and less interesting. Christians were marketing a message and thus did not want to take creative risks that might have defeated their message.
Christian art was very much commercialistic in its approach to the Gospel. Its main purpose was to evangelize non-Christians or preach lifestyle morality to Christians -- it was NOT meant be artistic in the sense of self-expression, it was not allowed to ask questions without providing concrete answers, it was not allowed to explore possibilities without saying which one was wrong and which one was right.
That's why people like Leslie Phillips (now Sam Phillips) left/got kicked out of Christian music.
What is cool nowadays is that there are many Christians who are not actually a part of Christian companies but secular ones, contributing their creativity and self-expression in order to put out works that are "Christian" under the surface, even while they are not marketed as such. They are supportive of a Christian worldview. This is VERY exciting.
You're right about "Christian" movies. They unabashedly, almost always, suck. I have actually learned a lot more from God (and been moved more) by "secular" movies that explore Christian themes.
It's usually because Christians are scared to actually explore how human beings work and leave things to chance; we are more interested in "preaching" how people should live and think, regardless of their experiences.

lol, explicit lyrics, if done correctly, force you to think critically about what you believe. i think people respond to that. christian music has no such agenda. it's just there to reinforce what the listener already believes, and for me anyway, that's boring. i like being challenged.
the christian movies i've seen were good. i liked the ten commandments (charlton heston version). the passion was interesting to watch, for about 30 minutes, then it was painful, but it at least made me wonder a few things. why didn't i want to watch a guy getting tortured? why did those people in the movie? how can people find that entertaining? why does it show the temple being destroyed when that's not historically accurate? whats he trying to say there?
those are the only two christian movies i've ever seen though.

2nd half of your ? first. I don't know what kind of "christian" music you're listening to but, there are alot of talented Gospel artists with a secular sound. Some of this praise and worship music is swayable, danceable, soul-stirring, reaching where the Holy Spirit dwells within. As for movies, I don't know what to tell you because many of the movies now suck regardless of the genre. The remake of the Ten Commandments was horrible. Passion of the Christ made for good discussions.

Good question, I couldn't agree with you more. Of course I don't listen to secular music or watch any movies that I would judge. I have always found the book (Holy Bible) to be more inlightening and entertaining. It has it all believe me action, mystery, adventure and yes even some good sex stories. Next movie skip and try reading some Bible and see what I mean. GOD BLESS YOU

Well, that's because it's your opinion. Not everyone thinks the way you do, so that's why there's a market for Christian entertainment. Why deny others their right to enjoy what they like?
(And Sean, do you believe everything you hear? Or do you check facts for yourself? And if there are a lot of Jews in Hollywood, so what?? There are a lot of other non-Jewish moguls, too. You believe what you want to believe.)

The presence of religion stifles creativity. All the constraints and regulations that religion places on human activity also places limits on human thought-the basis of inventitveness and creativity. Christian music and movies always have the same message-to follow God. How interesting can that be for either believers or non believers?

I think it's because Christian artists think that they have limited subjects that they can play/sing about, whereas secular artists (heh, I almost typed "sexular" ^_^) can sing about whatever they want. I think these artists are doing themselves a disservice with this mentality, though; they should really open up and broach all sorts of subjects, not just overtly religious ones.

You are correct :truly Christian movies and music suck!!
Christian movies promote Christian values. How many people want that? Instead, they want explicit sex, violence, occult and general mayhem. And most people today want some form of rock music and explicitly vulgar lyrics.
I'm a Christian and there are hardly any movie or music that meet the high Christian standards.

Because sex sells and money is as green as grass that are the two things that make movies and music, besides, the best movies and best music is the kind that doesn't get radio play or make the theater
