I have non-christian friends who sometimes enquire as to why I believe in God, why I am a christian, and what exactly I believe in. I find that if I quote anything from the bible, they simply turn off their interest. What is a way in which I can define my faith in a colliquial and conversational way without slowly boring people to death?

It's real simple. Know your faith as best you can. Know what you believe deep inside, and then simply speak from there. Speak simple, because that's about as much as they can understand, and I've always done it in English better than any other language, so . . . give it to 'em that way. They might not like your answers, and be okay with that. They're not always there to understand you. They're most often there to argue with you and insult you. Know that, give it to 'em straight, and realize, it's up to them what they do with it. "You can lead a horse (nag or stallion) to water, but you CAN'T MAKE THEM DRINK." You'll have done the best you can in the eyes of God, and that's ALL that matters. God Bless you.

The answer from you should be for these questions are as follows to make a non chris a christian :
1. U belive in him cause he is the one who can save us and nothin else .
2.You are a christian cause Jesus is the one and only GOD and there is no other gods before HIM .
3.You believe in GOD (and this is called faith)

Well you may think these answers are hard and rude to tell but if you want to prove your faith and tell this exactly without any change you will be blessed and the one who is hearing this may get angry but wont touch you well he cant when you are confident cause you are talking about GOD and if you really wanna change the people and tell this to them they wiill change .

Faith: Faith is the trust you have in god that is the one which will let you to talk to God and make him fullfill your needs automatically if you have faith everything shall be given to you . Dont think i am a preacher i am just a student who going to be one and i have read bible not even once fully and just now i finished three chapteres lol

I think a lot of people regard the Bible as the ultimate lie, and think that all Christians define themselves by it completely. So therefore if they don't agree with some of it, they think that is all religion has to offer and therefore choose to not have any sort of spiritual following.

When I am asked questions like what your friends ask you, I have found it more effective to talk about what I believe with reference not to the Bible, but to my own life. I can talk about God's presence in my life and about when I felt it. Not only do people find it interesting, it usually sparks some pretty intriguing conversations.

Good luck!

My faith is a personal connection with a higher power I defined myself. So when I try to explain it to other people I use my own words. My higher power I call great spirit, it resides in my soul, and it is non-judging and patient. That is my own understanding of god.
When you try to explain your religion to your friends try using your own words instead of quoting the bible. They have some assumptions about the bible, resentments maybe. Take some time to make sure you really have internalized the messages and really understand the spirit of the bible, not just the stories. You will not be able to help them hear the messages in the bible unless you can explain it from your heart. That is where faith resides. Good luck, I really hope this helps your friends hear your passion.

Anyone can quote from the Bible...I don't define myself as a Christian and I can quote the Bible! Just find the reason within yourself why do you choose to believe in God or Jesus? My husband (in the medical field) believes because day to day he sees things that make him believe that we're just not some cosmic incident, or made out of star dust.

Me? I'm not sure yet. I go back and forth because I haven't found anything that makes me believe. Jesus though, is a historical figure, you can't deny his place in history.

Your friends probably want to hear about your experiences and get turned off by bible verses because it doesn't show the personal side of what you believe. I find that quoting the bible works for the edification of believers and people strongly seeking. People who are curious about faith will want to seek God more when they can see, demonstrated through you, the joy, peace and fulfillment that comes with a true relationship with God.

Lack there of

But as for you, the reason people are not accepting your answers is because you're not answering the question. You're not saying why you have faith...you're reciting a book.

Answer honestly WHY you believe what you believe. Not "because the bible says this or that" but rather why you believe what the bible says to be accurate, and why you feel your faith best represents that.

Example: If you were to ask me why I like the color blue, and I say, "According to Home Magazine, blue on an accent wall looks good"...I haven't explained why I like the color! I recited what another source said...this may validate my opinion, but it doesn't explain it.

Faith is a 'personal' thing, its your own believe and trust, you cant change someone elses faith unless they wanted to, so if you do not wish to bore someone else to death, find a new audience thats more closely related to you.

I have a friend who is muslim, his believe in their god and bible is so strong that he will brain wash me each time we have a conversation, but no matter how hard he tries, it never changed my mind except sending me to sleep or make excuse to leave, I am not against their god or beliving, in fact I think everyone should have their own views on the subject.

What I think works best, and what I think is even encouraged in the Bible, because Paul does this a lot in his ministry is to tell your story. Your a witness for Christ, therefore, witness and tell your story of how Christ saved you. We all change into an entire new being when we are converted and saved and baptized with the Holy Spirit. How has God changed you and what has that done for you.

I remember sitting in a living room with two of my friends. Me and the other one were talking about our relationship with God and the third girl said that she felt like she just had the best sermon of her life. That made me feel ecstatic inside just because the love that I had for God really showed in that conversation with the girl. I think that if we would just talk about God, much more will be said about our faith and who He really is.

Good luck,

Curtis
