First you have to clear up what you like better: being popular or being with him. I am almost 100% sure he's not joking. But if you're already unpopular you got nothing to loose. If you don't go for it, you may loose your chance to be with him. Now why would he joke about that??? You definitely have to go ut with him, otherwise you will never know if he was being serious. Also this is the best way to get your self confidence back and it will build your character no matter how it ends (if it ends). belive me, you will get more tough ad proud on yourself, which will help you to ignore the unopularity and those hypocrats and eventually people will start respecting you for being who you are. You are too worried about your popularity. How about building up your self-esteem for one. Sounds like the guy is just a player and does this to all the girls. Why not do yourself a favor and not bother with this guy and find someone who is worth spending time with. Avoid the pain and develop a brain. Life will be much easier for you in the long run.

This kinda thing happened to me a few years ago when i was school the boy was 2yrs older than me and he and his twin were both models everyone fancied them and i had never really had a bf before. then one day he started paying me loads of attention i was really shy he would come and wait for me outside of my classroom and walk me to my next class. i couldn't believe my luck so when he finally asked me out i said yes. i made a few enemies well they just didn't like me coz i was going out with him but i was happy we stayed together for 2 1/2 years and are still friends now. so just do what u feel is right if u like him then go for it but make sure he does the running then you'll know if he like u or not!

Say sure, and if he says just kidding, look at him and say good, because even if you were serious i would only be doing it to make you feel good, you a******. Then walk away. If he was really serious you'll have a date with a popular guy. It's a win win situation.

think about whether u like him just becuase he compliments u? and think about whether he's just askin u out because he thinks its cool. ur worried about popularity too much aswell. if ur worried bout bein humiliated then why not give him a taste of his own medicine? tel him no i dont wanna go out with you as ur a user or something along the lines of that...

don't go out with him on less you are sure and fell comfortable with the idea and would fell comfortable with him. some times it is the trill of the chase, when they get a date with you they tire of you quickly
