I know he's famous for melting clocks, but I LOVE Female Figure with Head of Flowers. I have a print of it, along with The Rose. He was, if nothing else, a very creative person. I don't know much about the way he lived. If we were to judge all extremely creative people, I'm sure they would all be judged as weird and/or anti-social and/or insane. They think differently than the rest of us. Melting clocks, afterall.

Salvador Dali is part Artist and Part Showman. The way he used to live had a bit of shock value to it. Surrealism in general is weird........I believe that salvador tried to paint for us what the eye has trouble seeing but the mind knows all too well...our dreams. Dali made the Probable possible, and made the possible seem impossible. Dali taught me that Life is trammatic and that a true artist should always have the constant realization of his death in his mind and his heart to do any work of value.
"the only difference between crazy and Dali is that Dali is not crazy" - Salvador Dali

I like his work. I like the dream sequence he collaborated with Hitchcock on in "Spellbound". I think that surrealism is not really a reflection of the subconscious however. I agree with Freud's criticism of it. It is a self-conscious conscious representation of what the artist perceives as the subconscious. It is better to look at Dali's art than to take LSD.

Not really, He is a little to nightmare-ish and surreal for my taste. I prefer the French impressionists. If I had to pick a favorite I would say "Figure at a window"

Yes, very mich so...I'm not sure of the name of the piece, but it was like a man/alien born from the earth/egg. I had a reproduction of it in my room as a child. Best wishes

I like his work. I haven't really gotten into it so I don't know the names of the paintings, but they are really unique and they make you wonder what he was thinking or what he based them on.
