You may be aware of the existence of the humble flea when you see your dog bent double trying to scratch, but did you know that both your dog and you can be at risk from desease because of that tiny pest?Despite modern day advances in treatments available, many people have great difficulty in controlling fleas and the associated diseases which can come with flea infestation.Flea bites do damage beyond irritating your pet. Flea bites can cause a serious skin condition known as FAD (flea allergy dermatitis). In addition, fleas often carry tapeworm, a harmful intestinal parasite. If your dog eats a flea it can cause the animal to have tape worms.Since fleas feed on an animals blood, severe infestations may cause anemia. Only 5% of the flea population are actually on your dog, the rest are in the environment (i.e. your house).
A warning if you own both dogs and cats - Some brands of topical flea control contain a chemical called permethrin. While this is safe for use on dogs, it must not be used on cats.
Research has shown that ultrasonic pest repellent devices are useless for flea and tick control. Flea and tick collars are toxic when ingested.
Never use chemical flea and tick control products on puppies or on pregnant, very old or debilitated dogs without your veterinarian's approval
Flea combs can be used even on puppies too young for chemical flea and tick control. After regular grooming, run a flea comb through the dogs hair. The closely set teeth will pick up and extract fleas and flea eggs.
If fleas are still a problem after treating your dog with a proven, reliable product or if there's a severe infestation, treating your home must be done in conjunction with treating your pets.
Hope this was helpful for you! Good Luck!

look dont be so scared because i was the same way because we have a 15 month old and a indoor house cat that has fleas and yes it left small red spots on her sometimes but it dosent hurt her any. they were the house fleas. but we did go to the vet and get some good shampoo for fleas and went to a do it yourself pest control and bought some stuff to spray the yard and under the house and it worked. a tick can give a human a disease but not a flea. good luck

When a flea bites a child, it often leaves a bump, like a mosquito bite. If your dog has fleas, there are probably many more than one. You will probably need to use a flea bomb in your house as well as treat the yard. Also use Frontline on the dog.

Flea bites can cause allergies and skin infektiones and if the dog swallows one he can catch a tape worm. So first you should get a medication against fleas and then worm the dog.

fleas are not harmful to humans in the u.s. in other places they may contain diseases like the black plague which they would get from rats. as for the dog, all i would do would be to use Frontline Advantage. it is reccomended by many vets. the only harm done to your dog is the constant itching.

they are not only going to bite your dog but your children, they are going to leave bumps on their skin. Then you are going to see them scratching themselves all the time and obviously they are not going to like that. My advice: Use frontline and the fleas will disappear.
