Hi, I am trying to choose between Canon A700 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. Canon A700 has 6x optical zoom and 6MP, but no stabilization while Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 has 10x zoom, 5PM and stabilization. The price is basically the same. Which one do you think is better choice? Thank you.

Without further information, I'd get the 10x zoom.
The difference between 5 and 6 megapixels is not that much - both are more than enough for fantastic 5x7 inch prints. The 6MP camera will produce slightly better 8x10 inch prints, but how often will you do that?
Before buying however, check out the in depth reviews at http://www.dpreview.com and http://steves-digicams.com/ There's more to consider than just megapixels and zoom range. If either camera has important flaws or strengths, these reviews will tell you.

If you're going to be taking a lot of outdoor landscape shots or long distance sport shots, I'd recommend the Panasonic. But I like the fact that Canon has more features to it. You can do a lot of cool things with it
