5:00 is when the bride should be walking down the isle. I stress "should". When I got married, guests were still arriving at 5 minutes after 5:00. The whole wedding party and myself had to stand outside in the heat while they were seated! It seemed a little disrespectful to me. If I were you, arrive at the ceremony 15 minutes before. This will ensure you a good seat and display your respect.

All weddings run a little bit late but it would still be a good idea to still arrive 15 minutes before 5:00.

And if everyone thought like you, soon people would be asking guests to arrive at noon in the hopes that the ceremony could begin before nightfall. Arrive a little before the time stated on the invitation. It is much more important to show respect for the occasion than it is to avoid a few minutes of inactivity.

You should be there no later than five o'clock. Several minutes earlier is the best. Keep in mind that the bride doesn't want to walk down the isle until everyone is seated. Unfortunately, most weddings don't start on time, but that doesn't mean you should be inconsiderate and show up late.

You should be there no later than 4:50, it is extremely rude to be late to a wedding, regardless of whether you think it will start on time.

To have more respect for the bride and groom, everyone should be ontime, so their wedding will not be delayed if not necessary as they will have other plans to take care of after their wedding.

If the invitation says it starts at five, its safe to assume it will. Sorry you had to sit so long, been there and done that... it kinda just ruins your day huh?
