You are held prisoner in a room with two doors.
One door leads to freedom and the other door leads to eternal hell.

There are two guards, one at each door.
One guard ALWAYS LIES and the other ALWAYS tells the TRUTH.
You do not know which is which.

You are allowed to ask just ONE question to EITHER of the guards.

What question do you need to ask to find out which is the door that leads to freedom?

***Note: You can ask only ONE question, NOT one to each guard

10 points for the first right answer WITH explanation!.

FYI
1. You do NOT KNOW which guard is which.

2. You do NOT KNOW which door is which. I does NOT mean that the truth teller is guarding the door to freedom.

ask one guard , to tell you what the other guard would tell you his door leads to.. if you ask the liar he would have to lie and say the other guard would tell you it leads to hell (if it leads to freedom or vise verse),if you ask the truthful guard he would tell you the other guard would say it leads to freedom.(..or vise verse)

The question that you ask has to involve both guards at the same time:
"Would the other guard say that you are guarding the path to freedom?"
When we ask a guard this question, there are 4 cases:

The liar is guarding the path to enlightenment. He answers "no" because the truthful guard would say "yes".

The liar is not guarding the path to enlightenment: He answers "yes" because the truthful guard would say "no".

The truth teller is guarding the path to enlightenment. He answers "no" because the other guard (liar) would say "no".

The truth teller is not guarding the path to enlightenment. He answers "yes" because the other guard (liar) would say "yes".

So, if a guard answers "no", he is guarding the path to freedom. If he answers "yes", the path to freedom is the other door. Notice that even though we have learned which is the path to freedom, we still don't know which guard is the liar.

To find out who is the liar we would have to ask a question like: "Would the other guard say that you always tell the truth?" A reply of "no" means you are talking to the truth teller, a reply of "yes" means you are talking to the liar.

You should ask either guard which door the other guard would say is the one to freedom. If you ask the truthful one, he'll say the wrong door because the other guard will lie; if you ask the lier, he'll say the wrong door because he's lying about the truthful guard telling the correct door. Either way, choose the door they don't say, and there you go.

Door A is guarded by Guard A
Door B is guarded by Guard B

Ask Guard A if Guard B will tell you that Door A leads to hell.

Explanation: Assuming that both guards know what's on the other side of their respective doors:

If you are talking to the lying guard, and Door A leads to hell, he will tell you that Guard B will say, "no".
(Guard B will actually tell the truth, and say yes, but Guard A lies.)

If you are talking to the lying guard, and Door A doesn't lead to hell, he will tell you that Guard B will say, "yes".
(Guard B will actually tell the truth, and say no, but Guard A lies.)

If you are talking to the truthful guard, and Door A leads to hell, he will tell you that Guard B will say, "no".
(Guard B will lie and say no, and Guard A tells the truth.)

If you are talking to the truthful guard, and Door A doesn't lead to hell, he will tell you that Guard B will say, "yes".
(Guard B will lie and say, yes, and Guard A tells the truth.)

So if you ask the question and the guard says, "yes", go through door A. If the guard says, "no", go through door B.

Ask the guard what color your hair is. If he tells the truth go through his door. If he lies, go to the other door.

tell them to take a lie detector test (not a question) and then ask 1 if they stand by the freedom door.

Ask one gaurd if he's /she's the truth teller. If he is he will know(since he's truthful )and he will say yes.if he's the liar he will believe he's the truth teller so he will lie and say no.So the accurate truth teller will say yes and the inacurate liar will answer no

If I go through your door, will I go to heaven? If it is the one who lies, he must say hell and if it is the one who tells the truth must say heaven, either way you know.
