The basis for creationism is the Bible, from the book of Genesis, which actually borrows quite a bit from the story of Gilgamesh, which predates Genesis.
The creation story in the Bible is meant to answer the questions of life and its origins for a particulare people of faith. I don't read it as science.

Study Mount St. Helens alone..... Look up Dr. Grady McMurtry and Creationism. He was an evolutionist for 20 years until he was saved. Mt. Saint Helens fossilized hundreds of acres in 8 minutes. Scientists would tell you they were bazillions of years old. Also, even though we are created, we are like chimps as a whole. Ask yourself why you even believe in carbon dating. If you really want to know the truth you will be open minded and find out. Evolution, yes, even scientists will tell you it's still at theory, is based on a mathmatical formula that is so intellegent that you are going to be amazed. Here it is... Stand back...Random chance + eternal time = people. Now that is smart. Romans 10:9 :) Furthermore, God didn't create baby men and women, baby trees, or baby mountains in the beginning. If you were to cut down the first trees created they would have rings inside of them that some scientists would say that it was 500 years old.. For those that hate Christians. We still love you. Jesus said "Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for in the same manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

the Vatican's chief astronomer, Fr. George Coyne, issued a statement on 18 November 2005 saying that "Intelligent design isn't science even though it pretends to be. If you want to teach it in schools, intelligent design should be taught when religion or cultural history is taught, not science."
Cardinal Paul Poupard added that "the faithful have the obligation to listen to that which secular modern science has to offer, just as we ask that knowledge of the faith be taken in consideration as an expert voice in humanity." He also warned of the permanent lesson we have learned from the Galileo case, and that
"we also know the dangers of a religion that
severs its links with
reason
and becomes prey to
fundamentalism."

People just believe in creationism because they find it simple and easier to wrap their little brains around. They refuse to accept the actual truth that evolution is what brought us here. Someone stated in one of my questions that there is no proof of evolution. That Darwin's theory couldn't be scientifically proven. Which is bull. Over 99% of our DNA being similar to a chimp's is proof enough for me that some imaginary all seeing creature didn't create the universe or living things for that matter.

Telling people to "burn in hell" is very uncalled for... I see you have no facts.
The irony is that the hard-core Creationists have painted themselves into a corner. The evidence of evolution is overwhelming... So much so that even the Catholic church is now saying that evolution likely happened.
With that said, evolution does not disprove the existence of God.
