I would take him to the vet. It sounds like there might be something wrong that's beyond your healing ability. Some things just need an expert and I think that's one of them.

Hi... Maybe you could train Rocky to "leave it"... this training usually starts with having them lay down and putting a treat in front of them, and tell them to "leave it"... when they do you offer them another treat (not the one on the floor), then you progress from there to leaving other things like your own food, then work up to the cars, etc. If my dog and i happen upon another dog on our walks through the neighborhood, i have her sit and wait... then i tell her to "leave it" when the other dog nears (until i ask the other person if it's ok if the dogs meet). It took me about 5 months to get this through her head, but she does very well. I always use treat rewards when she does as i ask, and i find positive reinforcement works well. You can find techniques for "leave it" by doing a yahoo search for How to Teach a Dog to Leave It. You'll probably find several good, free training sites with information, so use the technique which you feel will work best for you and your situation. I also suggest never giving a treat unless the dog(s) do as you ask... even just "sit".... I always use treats as a reward for good behaviors. I know some people take their dog for "walks" using their bikes or on roller blades. This way, the dog expends a lot more energy because it has to run, and i know it's way more enjoyable for the dog. A tired dog is a content dog, too. As for the food issues, i have had these issues with my dogs from time to time, and even my kids! Both the vet and pediatrician told me the same thing -- "they will eat when they are hungry". Hopefully it's a phase. If not, i'd have the vet check him out, especially if the dog seems to be losing weight. And as for the overweight dog, you may want to cut back his food intake just a bit at each meal. Maybe 1/2 cup a day, since he doesn't get a lot of exercise. Over time, he should lose weight. And if he's eating the other dog's food, it might be a good idea to separate them while they eat so the overweight dog doesn't overeat. I hope this helps in some way.

Take thee to the vet! Whimpering? The dog is in pain! Something is really wrong. But the vet can fix it for sure.

Dogs can have tonsilitis just like humans. That may be the reason, or it could have injured its throat by swallowing something sharp. Take it to the vet.

After you take the tennis ball out of his throat maybe his condition will improve, if not (or if that is not the case), take him to the vet. It sounds serious.
