There is no real time to start, it all depends on how they develope physically. My son is 19 1/2 months old, he didn't start walking until about 13 months and waited to do it until we were at my mom's place then he walked from the living room right past his play pen and into the kitchen, probably a good 10-15 feet on his first try without any help. My husband was about 8 months when he started walking but only because his father really worked with him to start walking. I have come to the conclusion that it wasn't a good idea that he was pushed into walking because not only did he get into everything that much sooner, but he has bad feet and it is probably because of it. Myself, my mom said that I was 13 months when I started walking unassisted. I would however suggest getting a public health nurse involved if you are concerned and they can work with you and your child suggesting games and activities or other things you could try. I would try talking to your ped or family phys about your concerns first.
As for the nurse, where I live they have a program called Early Years where a public health nurse visits you as often as you need, we went for weekly until Gabe was 12 months old then bi-weekly for the next few months. There are Early Year Centers around the city here where they have basically a daycare setting but the parent(s) stay, the bigger centers have a hot meal 5 days a week for child and parent, they have activities, story time and a play area all in the one room. In the rest of the center they have a gym, pool and big kids play room with computers and such. You might want to look into similar options in your area, Gabe loves going and if I didn't have to rely on city buses for transport everywhere we would take him there every week or more.

My friend had a baby born about 2 months early as well. He did not start walking till 24 months and it wasn't great. The kid is now 10 and is a perfectly normal and healthy child.
While your child is probably taking longer than average, this doesn't mean there is anything wrong.
BUT, there is nothing wrong with asking your peditrician a question like this on the phone. He knows your history better than anyone on here and can give you suggestions.
(Personally, from the little information you have given she might not have any motivation to walk. Do activities that require walking only and don't pick her up when she asks. Don't expect results right away, but this could help)

I started walking when I was 7 months my daughter when she was 8 months , it all different. Some people a year some people longer. It all depends on the when the child wants to walk really .But if you want to speed up the process you have to start where every thing starts a the brain , stimulate the child to move around .Get the baby favorite toy and make the baby come get it then move to another space then make the child come get it again . Get those leg mussels strong help the child pull up have fun with our baby like you would you friend but still keep in mind that parent line don't lie it be crossed one More thing talk to your child like a person ant all that craze talk help the develop regular speech patterns that we all use.

I would think she would be walking by now my daughter walked at 12 months and my friends son walked at 9 months so it differs but at 20 months she should be walking. I would make an appointment with your pediatrician she may have a development problem. Best to have her checked out so you know for sure and you will feel more comfortable after she sees the doctor and you get answers. Good luck

Between 12 and 15 months is the normal age for a baby to start walking.

All kids are different but usually anywhere between 11 months and 14 months for full term babies. Your baby was born early so it just might take longer. You might want to make an appointment with the pediatrician for a check up just to ease your mind.

If she was a preemie, it is difficult to tell when she will walk. My son, born at 29 weeks, walked at 19 monhts. He was not even trying until about 18.5 months. Although this could be compeletely normal, I do suggest taking her to a physical terapist - even for an evaluation.... She may have muscle weakness or asymetric muscle development.

Premature babies are on a different time line than other babies. My cousin's baby couldn't walk till she was three. Is your baby's doctor concerned?
Play with her. My daughter really loved to climb stairs by crawling. It was good exercise for both of us.
Do not use a baby walker. That can lead to accidents with stairs and steps.
