Push-ups and the bench press are designed to work out your chest!!! So, here it is for the chest mussel:

What's your goal? Build 'Mass' or to be 'Lean' and have a cut definition???

* Mass - bench pressing with extremely heaviy weights. Do 3 rep's of 8 at the maximum weight you can press. It's highly recomended to get a spotter to ensure you're not whimping out and that you'll have someone to get the press of you since your goal is to work the mucels to failure.

* Lean/Cut - Push-ups. Do 5 rep's of 25 push-ups. This also melts away fat from your stomach and love handles since you need to engage your core part of your body during the exercise.

My preference for a man is the lean-cut muscle look. I just want to take a sharp object and poke the muscle men to see it they'll pop and deflate quickly (giggle) ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arms: Which part ... Biceps ... Triceps ... Forearm ??? Mass or Lean ... Hmmm you may want to re-ask your question.

Pushups with excellent technique are much better than bench presses.

Bench presses will only benefit the chest and perhaps the triceps.

Pushups also benefits the core and the muscles that work to keep your body stabilized, primarily:

The abdominal muscles
The gluteals
The obliques
The hamstrings

Try as you do your pushups to keep your body straight and stable. It may even help to check your body alignment in a mirror before you begin.

I wish you luck!

Push ups and bench press are primarily to work your chest muscles.
Bench press-when you press up with the weights, you are using your chest muscles, and your triceps. Coming down, you're stretching your chest muscles with resistance.

Push ups-When you are coming back up you're using alot of triceps, and chest, going down alot of stress still on your chest.

Both of these are difficult and good exercises. If you want to really work your arms and isolate the biceps and triceps more, do some curls for your biceps and presses for your triceps.
If you want to see some of these exercises go to your search engine and type in "body for life exercises" and you can view them, I think you'll like it.

Are these the only two options? What about tricep and bicep dumbbell exercises? Why only push ups or bench press?

I'd say push-ups because you are pressing your own weight, plus fighting gravity

My personal trainer says push-ups for sure. It does target your chest....but it also focuses on biceps and triceps and shoulders....you get the works!!

Push-ups are good and you don't need to go down the gym to do them.
