When I go to a restaurant, I go for the food, not the "service." In fact, I really don't like it when the waiter/waitress comes by every fives minutes and asks if I need anything else. It's like they're accusing of being too stupid to order the stuff I wanted the first time. Does anyone else think the chef should get tips instead of the waiters?
That brings me to why I brought it up. There's a buffet in Hillsboro, Oregon. Since it's a buffet the customers go to the buffet and get their own food. Instead of the customers getting their own drinks (just soda!) though, the waitresses bring the drinks. Just because of getting us drinks and refills, these waitresses seriously expect a tip off the whole price of the meal. Personally, I don't think they're worth a tip off the price of the drink.
Seriously, am I too greedy? What am I missing?

I totally agree with you. I don't ever leave a tip at a restaurant of that sort. I think it's rude for the restraurant or anyone else to expect a tip for serving drinks. But, we may be the only two people who think like that. Still it's a joke and I won't do it. On the other if I actually have a server, tip, tip, tip!! I used to be a waitress, by the way.

i'm a negative tipper at the same time as it is composed of waitresses hahaha. Servers could hate me. except the service replaced into reliable (above regularly occurring) or it really is an area I typical i do not tip better than a dollar or 2, inspite of how a lot the invoice is composed of. If the server makes a mistake then the end is going down, which probable looks harsh yet i don't think of information are a suitable. you've were given to earn them. Cashiers, client help reps, secretaries do not make significantly better than a waitress yet they nevertheless could post with offended, impolite and insulting customers, and not get information. i in my opinion do not realize why the servers deserve a 20% or better tip. i think that the kitchen team are actually those to blame for procuring me what I ordered and the style and presentation of the nutrition. I also do not realize the idea of tipping depending more often than not of the invoice. I tip in accordance to how a lot the server has performed. in the adventure that they deliver about me an $eighty steak why could they get a better tip than someone who brings me a $10 burger, yet is better well mannered and pleasant? I have a tendency to tip cab drivers somewhat better appropriate because they spend significantly better time operating with me. If the driving force is well mannered and would keep on a communique at the same time as we are using he receives an $8 or $10 tip. I tip in accordance to service, no longer how a lot the invoice is composed of.

I only tip when i feel the server deserves it. After all I am already paying for the convenience of eating out by paying $7.00 or more for a cheesburger!
Just because some guy writes a book and tells everyone they should pay 10% (or whatever) of the meal for the tip doesnt mean Im going to do so.
I feel its up to the person being served how much (if any) is left for a tip!
As for the waitresses just bringing the drinks... just a "thank you" should suffice.

I go to buffets and leave a dollar tip if it was good service. They are bussing the table and getting your drinks. You are being a little stingy to me. Either that or they don't pick up your empty plates and in that case why tip them? Seriously though it's maybe a 10% tip if you go by the avg. of where I go it is like $10 for dinner. If they are doing a good job then guess what they get PAID Waitress money. That means usually about minimum wage. Sucks to be them. So you give them a little tip out of courtsey.

When the wairess comes over, she is just doing her job, but if one is bothering you, say that we will motion you, if we need something more.
The waitresses in this case may be payed only a certian wage, due to the owner, and the owner expects that to be made up in tips, which is truly unfair, but that may be how he makes up the cost for the buffet.
I don't think you are greedy, although you could ask via telephone if tips are extra, or included in the meal.

Friendly, personable and professional people get good tips from me as a sign of gratitude. It's completely up to the individual as what is a reasonable tip. I don't usually tip at buffets though and if I do it's usually a dollar if I feel inclined.

...Usually people that make money are very cheap....if you don't want to have the waiter or waitress coming every 5 minutes to ask if you are OK, just tell her I'll call you if i need you. Those waiter/waitress make less than minimum wage....not like the chef he makes triple the money..(.he don't need any tips)..if you go to a buffet it is different...you get your own food....but it don't hurt to leave them 1 dollar or 2.....those waiter and waitress ..don't make any money they make it up ...with tips......sincerely..

I think you are absolutely correct!! Everyone always says the waitresses and waiters never make enough money. I am sorry, but I don't make enough money, either!! As expensive as it is to go out to eat in the first place, I don't feel like it is my responsibility to pad every one else's pockets, too.

In these situations it's customary to leave at least $1 for the sake of the waiter having served you. In addition it's also nice. =)
