let me first say i just had her at the dr's yesterday . she said to use benadryl to try and dry her up and baby ary and then suck the snot
out. which she hates. but her little nose is so red and is becoming chapped from wiping it constantly. last night she was up at 2 am
because she was so stuffed up she was having trouble breathing.
i gave her benadryl and the ary and sucked all the snot out that i could. and she was able to sleep until the morning. but giving her
benadryl scares me to . it makes her sleepy. and i worry that the combanation of being so sleepy and having a hard time breathing might cause her to stop breathing in her sleep.
i realize your not dr's (to those who want to make a snide remark
about my asking this question on yahoo answers) but there are a lot of moms out there with more experense than i . and i could use a bit of advise.. thank you

Vasaline works best or plain Chapstick Lip balm. My mother told me to use Metholatum muscle rub under my daughter's nose at night . It helped her breathe and soothed that sore nose. Rub some on her chest as well. Don't worry about the sleepiness part, she will be fine but ask the Dr or pharmacist to reccommended a non-drowsey formula for the alergies.

Regarding the chapped nose, I LOVE using lanolin (doesn't matter what brand) that is made for breastfeeding mothers. It's made for nipples that are dry/cracked/irritated and is not harmful for babies to ingest. I liked this because, if my son wipes his chapped nose (where I put the lanolin) and then puts his fingers in his mouth, I don't have to worry about the lanolin being unsafe for him. Regarding congestion, Infant Pediacare is the only thing I've found to be very effective. Having said that, frankly, congestion is just very hard to combat in infants...their nasal passages are so small. Pedicare, vaporizers, suction...it all helps, but, unfortunately, time is the best cure of all.

Have you tried the Johnsons vapor bath? It always clears my babies up and makes them feel better. I think the benadryl is ok to give, she'll be ok because you really need to dry her up! To help with the chapped nose, vaseline works and also A&D oinment. Try to use the tissue with lotion in it, it saves my kids noses!! Good luck! I hope your baby feels better soon!

I give my daughter a warm bath with the Johnson's vapor bath before she goes to bed. I give some Pediacare or Little Colds and I use a menthol vaporizer. Anything with the strong vapor smell helps clear her up a bit. I use saline drops and suck out the mucous.

I would try some aloe or some skin moisturizers (Avoid scented ones). Also, the little vapor releasing "nightlights" from SC Johnson help with congestion. What might help her clear out her nose and help her get to sleep is a nice warm bath or shower with you. Good luck and I hope your little one feels better!

Tylenol for the fever and additionally for primary convenience. Run the bathe truly warm and take a seat interior the steamed bathing room with him for 20 minutes, it is going to help unclogg him. Use the toddler nostril blower with saline drops good after. additionally a humidifier in his room. and be particular he gets a good number of fluids so as that secretions stay liquid, it truly is extra clever (yet grosser LOL) that they be working out than clogging interior... sturdy success !

I would use some moisturizer on her nose and maybe some neosporin so she doesn't get pimples from the bacteria.

Heck I have this problem myself as an adult.

I use plain Vaseline petroleum jelly on my daughter's chapped nose and lips when she's sick. It works great.
