A prophet in Islam is basically a messenger. Someone who has a purpose to bring people to the right path. In Islam, Muhammad did not "prophesize" anything. He gave information and lead people to the path of god. An example of a prophet is Noah, Moses, and Adam.

Prophecy does not mean to predict the future. That is a mistake people often make. A prophet does not necessarily have to tell the future, although he or she often does. That which makes one a prophet is that he hears from God. He announces the words of God which are given to Him. THAT is what prophecy is.

Muhammad of course prophesied the messages that are now contained within the Qur'an. It does contain many future events, as it warns frequently about the end-times when the earth shall be divided between believers and unbelievers, and things like this. But his main message was to worship the One God.

In ancient Egypt, Pharaoh used to torture the Children of Israel. God sent Moses to him with the mission of inviting him to believe in One God and allow the Israelites to leave Egypt with Moses. Pharaoh refused and the struggle between them continued for a long time. However, one night Moses succeeded in marching towards the frontier with his people but Pharaoh, becoming aware of his attempt, set out to follow him.
