Try putting 'distilled witch hazel' on sum cotton wool, and dabbing the sores softly for him, he will feel so relieved, and its a natural healing mix in a bottle u can buy it from a chemist.
I bought sum last wk, an it was only £1:99.
U can use it for almost any sores, itches scratches, even sunburn n prickly heat....! ! !
Good for humans and pets of most discriptions ! ! !

Taking your dog to the vet would be your fist course of action. However, a good oatmeal shampoo made for dogs could also help with the discomfort, but don't over bathe since it will dry out the skin and cause more discomfort and itching. Your vet could probobly recomend a good topical solution and possibly some medication to help with the discomfort.
Hope that helps. :)

Sorry to hear about this. There are conflicting ideas about the treatment of sebaceous cysts, it may just be that some treatments will work on your dog and some won't.
A trip to the vets is definitely the first thing you should do. Also, search on the Web because there's loads of info.
Your dogs coat may be aggravating the problem as they can start with ingrowing hairs, so you might want to get some advice about this as well.
Good luck.

He's old. Do the humane thing and put him down, don't let him go on in discomfort because of your own selfishness.
