When you are able to think, you do not need faith. I do not follow blindly. I don't need any other person to explain things to me. Mainly ones that claim we all are inbred, coming from two original people, or somebody claiming that I must do as they say and give money or burn forever. There is no proof of god, only inconsistent explanations that contradict themselves.

I look at life as an amazing adventure filled with love, learning, helping others, growing, etc.
I didn't 'become an atheist'. I simply never believed the stories I was taught in Sunday school. The Bible seemed like a bunch of morality tales, somewhat like Aesops fables with a similar intention: to show people how to live. As I learned more and actually read the Bible, I came to realize that the whole concept of a deity is just rediculous and that the Bible actually promotes more hatred than love. That was enough for me to not only reject the concept of God, but also to reject the morality of the Bible.

Life just is. No one knows why. It just is.
I became an atheist at the age of eight. It was the only thing that did - and does - make sense.
I don't know what happens when we die. No one does. It's not like anyone ever died and then came back to life, is it?
So i guess i'll find out when i die.
Or not, as the case may be.
But there isn't any kind of deity - nice or not so nice - waiting for me.....or for anybody else, for that matter. Because that would just be silly.

Life is a serious of experiences to be had---good, bad, indifferent. I got one shot at it, and I want to make the best of it. :-)
I became an (atheist-leaning) agnostic 8 years ago after doing a pagan ritual and finding that I didn't believe in "god" at all. My Conscience said if I am not getting anything from this praying ritual, then WHY am I doing it? I stopped doing the rituals and researched various religions....then very recently switched to atheism as I have had no "god" belief for that long. I also cannot be theist and be honest with myself at the same time, either.

I look at life as one big adventure, I want to experience as much of it as I can before it's all over. I became an atheist because one day I started visiting Yahoo! Answers and realised how idiotic most theists are.

You don't 'become' and athiest.
Most of us just weren't brainwashed in church when we were younger so we are more capable of free thought. Mostly though we are just like you. Except we don't believe there is a omnipotent being who watches over us demanding we worship him. We seek the truth too. We don't believe the world and all that is in it revolves around us. We can see the truth that there is no evidence to support that there is a God or that Jesus was God. We also believe in your right to choose blind faith over logic and evidence. Can Christians say the same? We are all insignifcant cogs in the huge machine that is life. We are happy to be alive and we try to live each day to the fullest, for ourselves, and for others.
Most of us anyway.

Life is to be lived now, not as some sort of test for a poorly-defined afterlife. We take care of each other, not because we get points in heaven, but because it's the right thing to do.
I've explored various spiritual practices (including Christianity), but could not reconcile my logical thought with the fantasy of the teachings.

The universe is "life" and it is eternal.
I became an atheist after studying the issue of religion, reading the bible and applying logic to all available information.

I look as life as just being what it is. I don't see a cosmic meaning or purpose; just that which I make for myself.
I became an atheist because I looked at my religious beliefs, and at atheism, and atheism made more sense to me.

i see life as it is. i don't want to speculate about God or heaven.
what is real is about life and death. i have family, friends. i see the world is full with war and poverty, disasters. but mostly i examine myself, i have fear, hatred and greed in myself which i try to overcome. i only try to live simple and happy for present life.
what will happen when i die, it doesn't really matter if you have lived a good life. a life with love, with no regret.
why did i become an atheist
for me as an atheist, i keep searching. i learn from religions too.
and somehow some religion's definition such God as a ultimate father who is all-loving, protect but also can anger to us isn't relevant. if you willing to examine psychologically, God represent our deepest fear to the uncertainty, to our insecure feeling of the mystery of existence.
and somehow to attaching to one religion, can make us closed-mind and not available for further spiritual advancement.
for example : some religion believe their God is the one and only. wouldn't it lead to war, intolerance. history has records.
so for summary, i try to be objective, to be realistic. one value that i hold is humanity. the world as a whole. keep open and learning.
