My 2 cats (Stinky & Blinky) wake me up, without fail, every morning right after the sun comes up. They are indoor (nights) and outdoor (days)...they spend the day outside exploring and doing cat things. It's their time for breakfast and to see what's going on in the world. It's great if you have to get up for work, but it's impossible to sleep late on weekends. If they didn't wake me up, I would think something is wrong. When the time changes (back 1 hour), it's even worse. If I don't wake up when the nudge me, they take more drastic measures (baseball bats). But I would never trade them for an alarm clock or a rooster.

cats are naturally nocturnal animals, and human beings are not. This means that your cat's most active during the night, and therefore uses up most energy during the 8 hours you are asleep. During the day, us human get hungry every 4-5 hours because we're most active then. This is the same reason for your cat. He or she is just hungry, and needs a feed.
Another reason may be that cats have internet clocks, and knows when you usually wake up in the past. Your waking up time may have changed, but your cat is simply doing his or her duty by waking you up at the same time everyday.

Well my cat wakes me up early in the morning because I am her servant and she is demanding one pouch of moist food immediately. So after I give her the food half asleep if by chance I happen to close the bedroom door, she will scream and scratch at the door until I open it so she can join me in bed and go off to sleep. Cats have humans...its not the other way around...lol

My grandkitty likes to wake me up early, too. She wants me to open the blinds so she can watch the birds.

It wakes you up because it wants your place in the bed. Keep you door shut, the bedroom is no place for a pet to be, especially one that sheds so much.

Mabey it wants food, or it's bathroom area cleaned up. That is usually when my cat wakes me up. Sometimes he wakes me up because he wants to show me is "fake" kill. I give him fake mice and he brings them to me so proudly at the oddest times.
