my cat had kittens about 9 weeks ago, and i'm having a hard time finding anyone to adopt them. i can't keep them, but i hesitate to take them to a shelter or put out a "free kittens!" ad, since god only knows who'll end up with them. i want them to be safe and sound and happy.

I hope you don't take all the foregoing suggestions seriously. Please don't abandon the kittens or harm them in any way. It would be better to take them to a shelter. Since they are still cute little kittens, their chances of being adopted are very good. I don't know about all shelters, of course, but the ones I have been involved with carefully screen prospective "pet parents" to make sure the animal will receive proper care and love.

If you live in or near a fairly large city, you might be able to find a pet rescue organization. Pet rescuers generally keep animals in foster care (real homes) while they look for someone to adopt the animals...and they usually have a "no-kill" policy, meaning they won't have a healthy animal euthanized no matter how long it takes to find a permanent home for that animal. To search for a pet rescue organization in your area, consult the local animal shelter, the Yellow Pages, veterinarians' offices and pet stores (the rescuers often bring animals to pet stores on weekends to try to get them adopted).

No matter what else happens, please have the mother cat spayed ("fixed") so this does not happen again.

I'm so glad your not thinking of drowning them! one lady I knew of did and the mother was so disturbed afterwards cos one day they just dissapeared. I guess you might have to give them to a shelter, some of them get adopted by really nice well meaning ppl, in fact who would adopt one if they werent?
I don't know what the policy is but some shelters never put down healthy animals, so u could try looking for one of those.
I think even being put down is better than possibly living wild with lots of worms and stuff that kill you slowly.
You never know exactly what they person is like but they will probably go to a nice home if you advertise them, not everyone is a cruel human being!

Why not get your cat neutered to stop this happening if you can't afford to look after them? It WILL happen again otherwise, for sure, cats breed like hamsters and don't stop, they are very horny creatures!

Have you thought about putting an ad in Craigslist.com or in a local shpppers paper where they let you put in ads for free? You can definitely screen those who come to look at them. Someone told me that the way she did it was if the cat went up to the person and seemed comfortable with them, then they gave the cat to them--but only if she felt right about it too. Other than that, I would say to find a local SPCA.

Find a no kill adoption shelter in your area. They will take them in an immunize them and adopt them out to good homes. Killing them like some have suggested is not only cruel but also against the law. It falls under the section of law dealing with animal cruelty.

Many times, animal shelters are able to find homes for kittens. Kittens are not as 'hard to place' as adult cats are. A responsible animal shelter makes sure the kittens go to decent homes through doing background checks on prospective adopters...And also pet-rescue people/organizations are great for finding kittens nice homes, too.

IGNORE the cold, heartless people here who are telling you to kill them. They're just trying to act 'tough' and 'bada**' when in reality, they are not.

Some pet stores will buy them from you. If you give them away for free you will be able to meet the people that will be raising them when they pick the kittens up.

take them to an all girls softball team. The girls should eat them up like candy. I should know my cat had two litters and as soon as they were old enough a went to a softball game or the 9-10 age group and they were gone as soon as the game ended.

i kno u said u wanted 2 make sure they got a good home, but advertising in the paper really works. instead of advertising "free cats to good home" u should say that their good at catching mice or something like that. then they'll get adopted by someone who needs a cat

Take them to a pet store. Anyone who goes to a pet store to get an animal really wants one. Depending on where you live you can always give them away in WalMart parking lot
