My mom just broke up with her bf and last time they broke up, he broke into the house to get some stuff. Well now I have to stay up all night until my mom gets up and I have to stay here while my mom goes places...how can me and my mom make sure that he won't break in? Because I'm only gonna be here for a week and after that my mom won't have anyone to watch the house and I want my mom to be safe while I'm gone.

Get the meanest, toughest, loudest German Shepard or Rottweiler you can find.Give him the run of the house open all inside doors.I guarantee you once any burglar sees and hears biscuit they wont go near the house.Trust me on this one it really works.

I'm sorry , but there is no absolute way to prevent this.
here are some things you can/could do ti reduce the likelihood.

Change all house locks, preferably to deadbolts
Get a security system that attaches not only to the doors, but to the windows.
Get an inside dog that barks - to warn you when someone is near the house
Place locked bars on windows. Please note, this can be dangerous if there is a house fire.
Ask the police to drive by the house often.
Ask the neighbors to notice and tell you and the police
- if someone is hanging around,
-if they look like they are trying to get in ( when you aren't home)
-and especially if they see the old boyfriend in the neighborhood.

Maybe you could get someone else to stay with your mom for a while.

Install a security system...there are many out there, tailored to fit peoples budgets, so don't worry about costs ....Other than that, just be sure to keep all doors and windows locked at all times and inform the neighbors to what this man MIGHT do, that way, they might be an extra set of eyes for you and your mom. But in reality if this man really wants in to the house badly and is determined enough, he might find a way....You know the saying"Where there's a will, there's a way"

Ps....I don't think guard dogs are all that effective.

You cannot ensure that someone won't break into your house. You can only slow them down and hopefully scare them away when they try.

If this guy wants in, he's getting in. Neither you or your mother can stop that. You can install alarms and cameras. You can invest in home defense. But if he wants in, you or your mother will have to deal with it somehow.

Call the police when you need to and understand that they won't magically appear before he has the opportunity to do you harm and get away. Be as responsible for your own safety as you can possibly be.

lock your windows, get an alarm. Some of them are magnet type things that when the window or door opens it will set off an annoying alarm, telling you that something is wrong. I'm not sure where you could get those but they are cheaper than getting an alarm system put into your home.
Or you could always get a restraining order if you feel threatened by the guy. Or move.

you could install saftey things like example for the windows you can install something so like if anyone breaks in an alarm will go off.or you can get a watch dog, because dogs have really good ears and if they hear someone coming in the will bark and hopefully it will scare them away(get a big one :)) and for when you come in a door an alarm will go off kinda like the same thing as the window so hopefully this advice will keep you and your mom safer this time

One answer baby, if they want they take, it's sad but true GET A SECURITY SYSTEM (BRINKS) AND GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP!! Oh yea it wouldn't hurt to get a gun permit too. A fellow police officer once told me that you have the right to protect your property. She also to me other things too but you get the picture. They break in, you shoot, its that simple. Never let them know that you are afraid, because they feel that they can do just about anything to you and your mother. Oh yea hunny tell your mother to stay out of the gutter looking for trash I know she can do better, there are good men out there that actually have money and good jobs and they dont break into ex girls homes.

She can get an alarm system installed and get her locks changed. Always lock her doors and tell her to go to the police station and get a restraining order against him so if he comes on her property he will be arrested. It might also be a good idea for her to get a guard dog if possible.

Get ADT. It's a saftey alarm that will automatically call the police if someone doesn't type the code in right or in a matter of time. You can also get motion monitors too!
