My neighbor kid, who is 4, stands outside and screams at the top of his lungs for no reason at all. It's driving me nuts, and I like kids. The mom just sits on her fat butt and ignores him. I guess I'll just have to invest in earplugs and/or become good at archery.

This message is to kaylora. I'd like to take you up on the compound bow offer, but if you saw this kid's mom, you would see that I'm in more need of a harpoon.

I've got a compound bow I'm willing to let go at a cheap price - but you must promise me that you'll use it on the parent, not the child.
In the mean time (oh, bad play on words) take out your aggressions on a batch of brownies then carry a plateful next door. Talk to the mother about how this behavior is affecting your life and ask her to curtail the screaming. Offer suggestions for activities that will help keep the child occupied...play-dough, crayons, building blocks. You may want to take her a list of boys & girls club locations near you, community swimming pool schedules, parks - someplace where the child can burn up some energy!

Ok I think I know where you are coming from. You don't want to say anything to the parents because that would seem rude. But you also don't want to put up with the screaming! I would go outside and talk to the child. Ask him in a joking manner, "hey there what are you yelling about?" Or strike up a conversation with the mother about the weather or something while the child is screaming. Talk to her really loud so that your voice carries over the screaming and maybe that would make a subtle hint.

i agree with the person who said go outside and scream back. he'll be so shocked, he'll stop straight away.

if the mum then gives you any grief, smile and tell her you were just responding to her darling child.

of course, maybe he has a behavioural problem which is why she doesn't react so check out how he is when he's not screaming. if that's the case, then yeah i'd go with the earplugs.

Make an official noise complaint, but I'm afraid if it's not after-hours, it may be something you have to work out with your neighbors.

My old neighbor had tourette(s) syndrome, she was only six, would bark, grunt and curse worse than any dirty sailor imaginable. It was frightening...especially considering it was out of her control. Poor little kid.

:) Good luck

why don't you mention something to your neighbor that their kid is disturbing you. If that doesn't work, call the cops on him, say you're "worried" about the kid b/c it's outside screaming.

Speak with the mother,Does she own her own home? Might want to speak with her landlord,if she rents, children services...As in America that is neglect of a child, needs are not being met,And it makes you guilty for association...Definatly take action....And people wonder whats wrong with the world today....Only stupid people are breeding....

There are noise ordinances in all towns. Video tape this kids behavior and tell her you will call the authorities if she doesn't stop him. I would suggest you call child welfare as well.

I say get a hose and spray him every time he screams. He would probably get the hint and so would his fat lazy mom.
