In the Torah and several non-canonical Jewish and early Christian writings, nephilim (in Hebrew הנּפלים means the fallen [ones]) are a people created by the crossbreeding of the "sons of God" (beney ha'elohim, בני האלהים) and the "daughters of men". (See Genesis 6:1.) The word nephilim is loosely translated as giants or titans in some translations of the Bible, and is left as nephilim in others.
When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. (Genesis 6:1-4, English Standard Version)
The phrase "sons of God" is sometimes translated into English as "sons of gods". The Hebrew word, "Elohim", is a plural form, but is often used with single verbs and adjectives (as in this case) when the single meaning refers to the "Godhead."

From what I know about the Nephilim, the giants weren't 2 miles tall. They were very tall though, and we're supposedly the ones who built the pyramids, and Stonehenge. And some propose that when David fought Goliath (a giant), that Goliath was a Nephilim.
If you ever listen to "Coast to Coast AM" with George Noury (http://www.coasttocoastam.com/), the Nephilim comes up a lot. Here are the search on that website for "nephilim" where you'll find show notes and guests' website links:

Well for one the numbers given in religious text have been proven to be inaccurate. And in this case it's just like your buddy's last fish he didn't catch. The Nephilim were originally referred to as the Gibborim. These were the children of angels, known as Grigori, that were in charge of watching over humanity and some of which fell in love with humans. As this was forbidden those Grigori fell, and as the sins of the father fall to the son so did the Grigori's sins fall to the Gibborim. After the Gibborim fell they became now known as the Nephilim.

The nephilim (giants) are the children of fallen angels (sons of God), in Gen.6:2, and the daughters of men. They were evil tyrants (mighty men) in Gen.6:4. They were before the flood and after the flood, as it says in Gen.6:4, "in those days and also after that". The people that God had ordered killed, (men, women, children) throughout the old testament were these beings. God has bound the fallen angels, delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved till judgment. 2 Pet. 2:4.
