Not true. It is a feeling of satisfaction. Christians frighten no one with treats of hellfire and damnation.

No. I consider myself an agnostic (not atheist) because I am unwilling to blindly place faith into any of the religions out there. If I were to just say 'Oh I believe and God is Great' then I would be a hypocrite because I really don't believe, I am just going through the motions.

I can't live a lie of a life like that, I can't go to church and smile and sing because I want to be there. And if I don't believe in it, I don't think I should be participating in it. I am not bashing religious people because I think it's good they have something, I just can't do the same thing.

But for some people, they just don't believe in it. It's like a Christian refusing the scientific evidence of evolution. It's irrational but an opinion based solely on faith. It's not fear of judgment, it's lack of belief. No biggie.

No. You have bought into the misconception that atheists are hedonistic pleasure-seekers who cannot stomach the existence of god, because we know that we are hellbound.

Cripes, man, you couldn't be further from the truth. We are decent, loving people who are full of life, good deeds, and everything else that the faithful seem to think they have a monopoly on.

I don't believe in your god for the same reason that you don't believe in Zeus, or Odin, or Ra, or Vishnu. Because these are clearly mythological. How is your god any different? Honestly, how is your god any different.

I love coming back from feeding the street cats and taking a carload of my furniture to Goodwill to find out that I'm a bad person because I don't seek the approval of an invisible man in the clouds. Rich.

That is just dumb. First you ask the question in a biased manner, "Isn't it true," the you load the question up more in the description. This is a typical sales technique that religious people use to get you to agree with their crap.

People are Atheist because they want the truth. They don't want fairy tales and people telling them how to live. They want proof and facts, not a book that contradicts itself, or a hypocritical church.

If the religious texts made sense, the church was sane, and if a higher power showed even 1 shred of proof for itself, then there would be no Atheists.

I am an agnostic and not an atheist but I suppose its close enough and actually I would say for me its the exact opposite. I was raised Roman Catholic and then later changed to a protestant bible teaching church and alway although I had my doubts I was afraid because these people always put the fear of hell and god into me so much that I could not think for myself now think about that if god knows all in your heart then doesn't god already know you doubt. Took a lot for me to finally be able to say out loud that most of what they teach really makes no sense in a lot of ways and that the physical world really shows me no proof of the existence of a personal god as they teach. It was the religion that made me afraid and unable to think or do for myself and crazy with guilt for knowing that inside I did anyway. And that made me very unhappy and miserable not happy like they claim to be. So I have to say I am much better off now not pretending to believe that which my mind says makes no sense or is impossible

Not at all.

I'm agnostic, so I'm not quite in the same boat as an atheist. But I'm sure you're referring to people like myself, too, so I'll speak up.

The reason I believe the way I do has nothing at all to do with "fear".

First and foremost, my mother does NOT believe that there is a god (notice that I didn't capitalize it). Therefore, she never instilled beliefs in me about anything christianity represents. We've never felt that religion had a place in our home, and here's why...

My mother and I are very intelligent, strong-minded people. We feel as though religion (not just christianity, but all religions), is just a crutch for those who are incapable of walking through their lives on their own accords. And that's okay. If you need help, get all the help you can get. Fortunately for me, I'm stronger than that.

Isn't true that the reason christians and catholics created god is that they are terrified that there may be nothing after death and that the truth is that life is over once they die? Aren't christians and catholics terrified of not having something to believe in and so they created a god so that they can believe that they will be rewarded in the end? Aren't christians and catholics terrified that they might find out that their life is meaningless?

I was raised as a Baptist and if I was fearful of an almighty God or evil Satan, I would still be a Baptist.

You clearly know nothing of which you are attempting to speak, Christianity provides that a person can sin all he wants and still go to heaven.

It appears Christians are the ones who choose their beliefs based on fear of what comes after death.

I am an atheist because the bible is a book of poorly written mythology and it is a fact that supernatural entities ("Gods") do not exist in fact.

As an Atheist, I would have to disagree. I don't believe in a god. Therefore, there is nothing to be terrified of.

I consider myself free from superstitious nonsense. I don't believe in a soul.

I make it through life by being the best person I know how to be, by being kind to others, and enjoying life in general.

You might feel sorry for me, because I haven't accepted your ideas or beliefs. The truth is, I feel sorry for you, because you live with a fear of being sent to hell, from a supposedly "loving" god.

So, I guess we will agree to disagree!

I'm going to tell you why I'm a damn atheist.I been told all through my life about good ,evil, heaven, and hell, I been told that god only excepts people who believe in him. I been told to give money to the church because god needs it , i been told that people from other religion are evil people who is only trying to destroy are way of life , I been told So many Fu*cking things when i was a little Fu*cking boy at the age of 7,I was forced in to a religion and was beaten until i believe in what they said.

This is why I'm a damn atheist today, and no I'm not terrified of anything , they should be terrified of me , and the other who do not believe in there superstitious religion. You can say what you want about your religion that its good and whatever, but people in your religion has treated other people like Sh*it and beaten and forced people to believe in what somebody said, they also judged other like they are god .

Ever sense then i drawled my own conclusion about what i think life is , and also i only believe in the truth.

Not really. Perhaps true for a few atheists, but not all that many.

I don't consider it true for myself. I don't believe cuz I cannot believe and be honest with myself at the same time.

I am accountable for my actions Every Day Of My Life---to myself, my Inner Conscience, to society, to other humans. I learned that morals and ethics does teach accountability.

Please, I kindly ask you do not assume or generalize false misconceptions about atheists before you do your research. :-) As I don't do the same for christians or other theists. :-)
