Think about how much you like him. Is he worth the first guy talking bad about you? Sounds like you might still have some feelings for guy #1 if you're worried about what he'll think about you if you go on with your life.
Did you go out with guy #1? If you didn't do anything together, then I really don't see any reason why he would hate you and talk bad about you. If you're over him, and if there was never anything serious going on between the two of you, then don't worry about what he thinks.
In the long run, it's your choice. Definitely. Nobody can put you down about it without your permission. If you want to be with guy #2, then go for it. You are your own person, and it doesn't matter what other people think about you in the end. Not even old flames.

You have the right to live a normal life no matter what other may think or talk about but going out with friends of your ex-boyfriends is really not a good idea for all you may know they could be keeping notes. So find someone else that is not connected in any way.

I do not think you should go for it because it looks like you are interested in the new guy to get the other guy jealous this is my opinion on how the guy is thinking. Girls point of view If you really like him and it's not to hurt anyone or make a point across you can go out with him because the first guy never gave you the chance and two if he really cares about you he will want to see you happy. Before making any decision Ask yourself which one fits with my qualities? what am I looking for? and is it really worth it?

You like the new guy and he likes you. Of course go out with him! If the other guy doesn't want to date you and is your friend, why would he be upset about you hooking up with someone else? If he gets bent, then he is not YOUR friend or the other guy's! You can't live your life based on fear of what people will think or say about you. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

i know you know their is a small moral dilmena in this or you would not post it. the simple answer is do you like him enough to accept the ineveitable critiscism that will come from such a move. If you feel this guy making you happy weighs heavier than any fallout, go for it. But if this is just a possible temporary crush, not worth ruining friendships over.

Do what you feel most comfortable doing. Maybe now isn't the time to jump into a relationship with this guy after ending the last one. Try waiting a while before deciding.

Miss Independent:
Sounds like you want to be independent but are afraid to be.
If you like someone and you think they are safe to be with, then go for it, you don't need other people to make your decisions for you if you are independent.
You can go thru your who life letting others sway your decisions because you have fear. When you are right you don't have to defend yourself and if your old boyfriend says bad things about you, that will be on him. I know that if he really cared he would still be with you , so let him go and let him be the clown if he needs to be. He will get over it.

Talk with his friend and get to know him better. Yes, you and your ex are through so why not remain friend's with him and see what may happen with the new guy. You may have something great and if anything you'll have a great friendship.

The one thing you learn as you grow older, do what you want to do and never base your decisions on what you think other people may do. The short answer therefore- - - - Go for this guy.
