Well, pups will chew because it feels good on their teeth.
However, the way that I tought ALL of my dogs to not chew on me OR to bite me is this:

Every time he grabs a finger or hand, stick your finger near the base of his tongue and press DOWN gently. They hate it and will try to get it out of their mouth.

It will take a while for the dog to catch on but the longer it persists in chewing the more determined you will need to be.

You may, if he continues, have to fight him/her to keep you finger in there for a second or two so that he DOES realize that YOU are NOT something he wants in his mouth.

While other methods work you dont always have a newspaper, bottle of water, toy, or treat handy but you always have your finger with you.

12 dogs taught..... not one chews or bites people! (WELL, some are now dead, but it still counts.)

he is teething and you should expect it getting worse from now on until he is about 6-7 months old. i am having a 13 week old lab puppy and going thru the same thing. try giving him a lot of chew toys, puppies have really shot attention span and thus they will easily get bored with chewing just 1 or 2 or even 3 chew toys. get him more, change his chew toy every 15 min or when you think he started to get bored with it, and then also rotate them every few days. another method is to get a wet towel and freeze it, it will help soothing the sore gum and teeth. when you say NO to him when he is chewing things that he shouldn't be chewing, does he not chew right away? if so, praise and treat him. or when you see him chewing things you don't want him to chew, give him his chew toy and if he chews his toy, praise him. this is tough but that's how puppies are like. even for human babies, they go thru teething stage too. be patient and good luck!

The moment he begins to chew on you, withdraw all forms of affection - and say NO sharply. If it persists - leave the room and go to a room where you can close the door. Better yet, if your puppy doesn't destroy things, immediately pick it up and put it in a room by itself. Be sure and give lots of affection when it isn't biting on you!

You should never play with a puppy by letting them bite you - potentially dangerous behavour especially as they get bigger. Many people let puppies "play bite" their hands or feet. Cute when they are small, but an undisciplined puppy can grow into a serious problem for you and others.

One thing that works with pets is a spray bottle full of water. When he chews on you, spray him in the face with the water bottle. Then give him his toys to chew on. He will get the message that he's not supposed to chew on you.

Your little baby is teething! It is just like a human baby wanting to put everything in his mouth. Your skin is soft and warm and feels good to his little mouth. If you want to break him of this ( and that's a good idea... he will keep on as he gets older!): if he gets your hand in his mouth, push gently on his tounge... he will want it out immediatly. Give him a puppy teething toy, like a chewy or a greenie treat. THey are fully digestable. If that doesn't work, you have to assert yourself as the alpha dog. Never hit or spank, as they do not understand. Say NO in a moderate tone and reward when he behaves. Good luck!

He is a puppy. That's what they do...chew on things. If you don't want him chewing on you, then crate train him, go into another room or just don't let him do it and tell him NO!!

what you have to do is simply snap your fingers beside his ear and say in a firm voice no! then give him a toy then reward with a treat.
